WEEK SEVEN EXCERPT-HIGHLANDER'S HOPE | COLLETTE CAMERON

The days are flying by until Highlander’s Hope releases May 15th.

I’m busy planning a virtual and in-person release party. I’ll be posting pictures of prizes I’ll be raffling off over the next few weeks. I start a blog tour with Goddess Fish Promotions May 20th, but several other amazing bloggers have invited me to their blogs.

Highlander’s Hope will be available from Amazon.com  exclusively from May 15-August 15th, and yes, it will be available via Amazon’s Kindle Select program.

As soon as I have the location and time of my in-person release party confirmed, I’ll be posting here and on my other social media sites. I’m just waiting for a phone call and keeping my fingers crossed.

I want to thank you for stopping by and reading this week’s excerpt. I know you have a busy life, just like I do.

Please do follow my blog, either by entering your email at the right, or scrolling clear to the bottom of my posts and clicking follow there. And of course, I’d love to connect with you on Twitter or Facebook. Those links are below too.

By-the-way, what do you think of my cover? Cobalt blue is my favorite color. Remember that. It just might come up as a scavenger hunt question…

Yvette gulped past the lump in her throat, quickening her pace. She maneuvered between seaman, crates, overloaded carts and wagons, and the occasional steaming pile of horse droppings. Skirting a well-sprung carriage, she slipped into a dingy warehouse doorway. From its depths, the whoosh of her heart magnified in her ears, she watched the suspicious man. She told herself to stay calm. She didn’t know for certain he was trailing her.

Should she confront him? She bit the inside of her cheek and glanced around. The Dock Manager’s office was right there. She peeked at the man again.

He had stopped too and now peered around, clearly aggravated. Yanking off his shabby cap, he wiped his sweaty brow with his forearm. After cramming the accessory on his bald head, he tugged on his ear, turning his head this way and that.

Crouching low, Yvette crept round the end of a barrel-filled wagon. Staying close to the cooper’s, obscured in the shadows, she darted down another narrow lane. A half-starved cat jumped from the crate beside her head. “Lord Almighty,” she yelped, wincing when the barrel she plowed into crashed to the ground.

A hoarse shout echoed behind her, followed by the thud of running feet. Grasping her skirts in one hand, lugging her valise in the other, she broke into an awkward, lumbering run. She dared to shoot a peek behind her. The man gained on her, and Lord help her, a second man had joined the chase.

Sweet Jesus, it was Collingsworth.

Her bonnet fell forward, blocking her view. Dropping her skirts, she clamped a hand on her hat. Panting for breath, she dashed across the street, then plowed her way through the crowded avenue, bumping into pedestrians and merchants alike.

“Excuse me, so sorry.”

Yvette barged into a well-dressed gentleman before knocking her knees against a bench occupied by two fishwives.

“I say, miss!”

“Slow down, dearie.”

“I beg your pardon,” she gasped, without slowing her pace.

A carriage came alongside her, the door thrown open wide. A gloved hand emerged.

“Get in, Miss Stapleton,” ordered a deep baritone voice.
