ROMANCE WRITERS' WEEKLY-THIS YEAR I AM THANKFUL FOR... | COLLETTE CAMERON

As is appropriate for this time of year, the authors of Romance Writers’ Weekly are sharing what we’re thankful for.

I hope you scooted over here from the marvelous Veroncia Forand’s blog!

Until October 31st, I would have said that I was grateful that I’m in a place where I only work one or two days a week and am able to write the rest of the time. I can never spend enough hours writing. Time flies by when I’m immersed in a story, and I have the most beautiful writing room where I create my characters’ lives.

However, I learned on October 31st that my mother had suffered a stroke on October 27th, but she refused to go to the hospital until my brother, literally picked her up and put her in the car.

I’m grateful she survived the stroke, though the damage is permanent due to the lack of immediate treatment. She’s paralyzed on her left side and will never go  home.

However, she will get treatment for other medical issues the family has been very concerned about for a long time, and that’s another thing I’m grateful for.

She was rushed back to the hospital November 21st and the doctors have determined there are other series health problems. Again, these would have gone diagnosed had she not had the stroke.

It’s been interesting to watch the family dynamics play out, some very good, and others not so much. Still, the ones that have been good are gratifying, one of which is I will have the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with all my siblings for the first time in years. We are all aware our mother may not have much longer with us.

And though some things I’ve learned over the past weeks have been extremely painful, some heartbreaking betrayals, I’m glad to know the truth, because I am determined  to focus on the good and not wallow in the junk.  Life is simply too short, and my blessings too many.

Finally, I’m grateful for my exceptionally good health. I take no medications and have no chronic conditions, other than a sweet tooth! I hope to maintain my health well into my late years.

I’d love to hear what you are grateful for this year.

Let’s head over to Jami Denise’s  and see what’s up there!
