ROMANCE WRITERS WEEKLY-FIRST KISS DISASTER | COLLETTE CAMERON

Once again this week, the authors of Romance Writers Weekly are taking a different path form our normal three questions and answer platform. We want to keep things mixed up and oh, so interesting!

Guess what I get to talk about this week?

My first kiss, officially called, Dish About My First Kiss.

Didn’t see that coming did you?

Well you did if you trotted over here from Mikki Cober’s, but in case you didn’t, you’ll know what I’m blathering about.

So, my first kiss. Geesh, that was a long, long time ago. Let me think. I assume we’re supposed to talk about our first kiss with our current sweetie. I’ve been married to mine for over 30 years.

Gads, that’s a long time.

Our courtship was unusual in that he asked me to marry him a little more than two weeks after we started dating. Actually, it was closer to three weeks.

No kissy poos on the first couple of dates, but we were practically inseparable from the get-go.

I’d invited him to come to dinner at my tiny apartment. I made Grandma Cameron’s famous pot roast. Yum.

My redneck rogue arrived with a half gallon of milk in one hand and a handful of pheasant tail feathers in the other. My first bouquet from him was feathers from a dead bird’s butt.

Lovely.

I don’t remember a whole lot about the dinner or what we did afterward. I didn’t have a TV, but I do remember what he said to me when he was getting ready to leave.

“Do you think I could have a wee little kiss?”

Nope, the man doesn’t have a bit of Scots blood in  him.

I was nervous. Hubby was 6 feet of drop-dead gorgeous in those days. Black hair, sexy mustache, a bode to rival any cover model and . . . braces. Yep, at twenty-two he had braces. They came off two days before we married.

Anyway, he was the perfect gentleman and leaned in for a gentle peck. He wrapped one arm around my shoulder and gave me a sweet kiss. Before pulling away, he patted my bottom.

And I . . . my face is so red writing this.

Please don’t judge me.  I . . .

I farted.

Just a tiny little poot of nervousness.

Naturally, he pretended not to hear, but after we were engaged, he confessed he had heard it.

There have been many wonderful kisses since then, but that kiss will live in infamy. Thank goodness my heroes and heroines first kisses haven’t been quite that mortifying, though they’ve had some awkward moments too.

All right, now that I’ve thoroughly embarrassed myself, let’s head over to
Brenda Margriet’s and see what her first kiss experience was like.
