It's Facelift Time! Collette Cameron Historical Author is remodeling her house.

It’s Facelift Time!

Dearest Readers!

Ha!

I bet you thought I’d either had a facelift or was going to get one. Truthfully, I might have some work someday. I hate the smile lines bracketing my mouth and the two creases above my eyebrows. The right one is way worse, which leads me to wonder how often I cock it in sarcasm.

But, I’m not getting the facelift. It’s facelift time for my house though. Sort of.

We had the house built twenty-three years ago and moved in two days before my youngest turned two-years-old. Other than painting the outside once, some painting inside, replacing a couple of light fixtures, and installing wood floors in the family room and kitchen two summers ago, we haven’t upgraded or replaced anything.

The house was starting to look well-used as you can see from this before and after picture of the powder room. I almost didn’t post the before one, because I am so embarrassed of how awful it looks gutted.

Anyway, we’ve practically stripped the wallpaper form everything (I was a wallpaper fiend two decades ago!) and replaced it with a lovely almond colored paint. All the bathrooms will have new vanities, toilets, floors, and light fixtures.

We added wainscoting in the downstairs bath and the den, and we’re installing wood floors in the den.

I met with the carpet people today, and picked out carpet for the living room and bedrooms. We have a lot to do still, and I don’t imagine we’ll be done for several months, because we’re doing most of the work ourselves.

It feels good, but it’s also a bit sad.

When I painted over the trompe l’oeil in my bedroom, I did feel a small pang of regret. But I like my new blue and white bedroom.

The same fleeting melancholy gripped me when I stripped the pretty wallpaper off all three bathroom walls.

But sometimes, we need to let go of the past so that we can move into our future–our destiny. Even if we don’t know exactly what that looks like,

When I left teaching, which I adored, to write full-time, I wasn’t one-hundred percent sure I was making the right choice. After all, I hadn’t gone back to school to get my Master’s Degree in Teaching until I was in my forties. I had student loans to pay. A lot of them.

But the writing called to me on a level that’s hard to explain if you’re not a writer. The loans are paid now, and I am so privileged to get to do what I love every single day! And I’m even more blessed to have made so many wonderful author and reader friends.

What’s your dream job? If you could do anything, money wasn’t an object, what is the one thing you’re most passionate about?

Would you ever have a little work done on your face?

Until next time!

Love

Collette
