CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH VERI MONTGOMERY | COLLETTE CAMERON
Today I have Becca St. John is interviewing one of her characters! I hope you love character interviews as much as I do!

An interview with Veri Montgomery, a young girl introduced in The Healer, a grown woman in the continued story of The Protector.
Your life changes directions many times.  When were you the happiest?
My life, my world, is with Roland. Our love was not easily found or won. But, like so many others, I often mourn the innocence of youth, before the wickedness of the world revealed itself.

The danger started in your idyllic youth.
CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH VERI MONTGOMERY 1
Yes. I was raised by a society of women healers.  We lived in the woods and caves on St. Michael’s Mount.  A wonderful time until Father Ignacious gathered a force of brutal men to looking for me and to burn healers at the stake. I was there, but they didn’t find me.
You made the hail come.
Did I?  That isn’t possible, is it?

It seemed as though you did, with your anger.
No, I don’t think so though I was very angry.
Others tried to destroy you as an adult?

The 13th century was a dark time. Superstition and fear spurred cruelty. Roland tried to keep me cocooned in safety, which was impossible to accept. I would slip out and do the one thing he feared would have me condemned; tend to the sick.  His need to protect me by keeping me close put me in greater danger.
Roland was part of the ‘bad’ you went through.
Only at first. The crusades, years of campaigns and battle, darkened his view of the world.
When did you meet Roland?
We were quite young. Roland had just been knighted when he was attacked and left for dead in the same field where his brothers had been murdered.  Although no more than a child, I had trained to heal since birth. My first male patient, Roland fascinated me.  Then he woke and proved how foolish men can be. Infuriating.
Are you sorry for that time in your life?
People did things they would later be sorry for, but it also brought me closer to Roland.  He may not fully understand who and what I am, but he loves me for it and that’s what truly matters.
Your early years, when you first met Roland, can be found in The Healer.
The Healer introduces not just me but all the Women in the Woods. These women, and their descendants, will be featured in other stories.  My many times great-granddaughter will be in An Independent Miss due to be released at the end of the 2014.
What of your older self, when you are with Roland as a grown woman?
My life with Roland, the challenges we face between ourselves and because of others, is in The Protector.  You tell me if he isn’t infuriating?  Men!  What more can I say?  I love him dearly but sometimes . . .
Oh, Veri, despite tough times you do make me laugh.
