This week, post the first five lines of your 5th chapter!
My snippet is from Schemes Gone Amiss (Conundrums of the Misses Culpeppers, Book 2)
Coming January 2016
Tristan snatched the paper from the floor.
One has to wonder if Ld L has finally decided to pursue matrimony with one of the newly arrived blonde beauties.
No. He most emphatically has not.
This columnist means to watch Society’s reaction and predicts the thwarting of many a well-laid scheme …
I’m sitting on the end of my seat in anticipation of your snippets!
I love that snippet, Collette!
This is from the fifth chapter of All That Glisters, which is in my Hand-Turned Tales, coming this week as my new permafree.
“And you are to do as Mr Hackerton tells you, Laura,” Uncle Campbell said. “You are not to dance unless he says you might. Do not drink the punch, for I do not trust those Freemasons not to put ruinous liquor into it. And you are not to dance with Thomas O’Bryan, do you hear me?”
Uncle is a determined sort, isn’t he?
You have the most creative ideas for snippets, Collette! Here’s mine:

The light from the wall sconce illuminated the table where Damon and Gareth sat talking, knee to knee.
“Damon has a new assignment for ye,” Gareth said, “and he doesn’t want this one botched up like the…”
Morgan’s face was plastered with a leering grin. “Like your little horse and pony show down on the docks last week?”
Gareth felt the red creeping across his face. He took a long draw of tipple.
“Gawd, talk aboot a stench. You made a hash out of that one aright,” Morgan said.
“I kept them from going on the boat, didnae I?”
I love the brogue!
Wonderful lines, ladies. I already love your hero, Collette. 🙂

“He didn’t plan on my wanting you. He hoped I would be repulsed by making my best friend my wife.”
“And are you repulsed?”
For the first time that day he felt a grin pull at his mouth. “Trust me. I am as far as repulsed by you as a man can be.”
Oh, he’s a charming rogue!
Definitely fun! From my Regency, The Wicked Bargain, Chapter Five –
The dining room was quiet this morning. Ethan had had a restless evening after his talk with Arabella. The constant turning in his bed could not get his mind off the chit. Numerous times he considered walking to her room just to watch her sleep, and then arguing with himself to leave her alone.
By the time the sun’s rays snuck through his drapes, he was up, dressed and out the door for a ride. A hard ride had always helped him clear his head and ease his pain, but this morning, no amount of land covered cleared Arabella from his mind.

OMG, such suspense as I looked to see how I started Chapter Five! This is from The Rake’s Irish Lady, which is up for pre-order now and releases December 30.
“Oh, no, you’re not,” Colin said, his blood running cold at the thought of Bridget and Sylvie on the same ship as Toup.
Bridget grabbed Sylvie by the hand. “We are leaving, and leaving now, and you can’t stop me.”
“Not on that ship.”
“How dare you interfere?” Bridget cried. “She’s my daughter, my responsibility, and I have every right to take her to America if I choose!”

I know!! Go Bridget!
I’m loving these short excerpts. Here’s mine from my 1920’s holiday novella, Erin’s Gift.
Erin shook her head, anxious to draw Abby’s full attention. “No, I can’t possibly stay at your parents’ home. It wouldn’t be right.”
Abby braced her hands on her hips and laughed. “Of course you can, you silly goose. It was my fault you lost your job and your room at the boarding house. It’s the least I can do.”
“But your parents—”
“My parents are fine with it.” Grinning like the Cheshire cat, Abby admitted, “They’re hoping you’ll be a good influence on me.”

See, now I want to know what happened before this!
From my Christmas novella, Two Rings for Christmas–Jenny is the Irish girl who has just been pressured into a betrothal by her mother, who fears that Jenny’s true love will never return from Boston to marry her–
“Jenny!” Catherine banged through the cottage door, letting it slam behind her.
Her mam, who was at the spinning wheel spinning wool, looked alarmed. Jenny, mending a linen shift by her side, jerked as well.
“What do you mean by crashing in so?” Mammy looked cross. “See? My thread is all uneven here.”
“Mammy—Jenny! Fergus Carney is back!”
Available at Amazon in print now; ebook early next week
I can just picture them, Beppie!
Excerpt from The One (The Only One) #1
He held her tightly, pressing himself into her. He didn’t care anymore about the truth, or what was right or wrong. He couldn’t bear to see here suffer. He knew if he didn’t put some distance between them, his body would betray him, but all he could think about was kissing her, of tasting her. He released her and took a step back. “Look, maybe we should take a beak from the investigation.

It should say, “Look, maybe we should take a break from the investigation. Grrrrr!
This is from “Christmas Rainbows,” Book 6 of my Claddagh Series.
Pearse stood in the doorway of Bewley’s, his restless gaze scanning
the elegant tea room. Tea at Bewley’s was a must for every visitor to
Dublin. Surely, after a day of shopping, the O’Briens would foregather
here for some nourishment, a chance to talk over their day before
heading back to the hotel to change for whatever evening’s entertainment
they had planned.
He really wasn’t looking for them. He’d see plenty of them in
Ballycashel.
But the lure of those gray eyes fascinated him as nothing else ever
had.
I’d like to visit that tea room too.

From “Operation Santa” a Christmas short story in Sizzle in the Snow.
Marci stared at the two pale pink roses sitting on her desk. They had to be from David.
But why roses signifying admiration? As an amateur rose grower, David understood the meanings of the different colored flowers. He admired her? Whoop-ti-do.
In the week since Thanksgiving, she hadn’t heard a word from him.

From A PERFECTLY UNREGIMENTED CHRISTMAS in CHRISTMAS REVELS II – Four Regency Novellas
Chapter Five
The woman gave new meaning to the word relentless. Everywhere Ben turned, Mrs. Winters and her young henchmen shoved Christmas at him like a matchmaking mama with a spotty, more hair than wit, dowerless daughter. Tied by childish hands, bright red and green ribbons festooned table legs and marble columns. They bedecked every newel at the top and bottom of every flight of stairs. He’d forgotten how many staircases Pennyworth Hall held.
Poor Lord Pennyworth doesn’t stand a chance! If you want to know what else Mrs. Winters and her henchmen do to the lord of the manor in the name of Christmas here are the buy links!

Lovely, Louisa!
Thanks, Collette – I love Five Line Friday!
From my latest release – Heather In The Mist
At the end of chapter 4 the hero and heroine are formally “re-acquainted” after several year’s absence.
Rogan continued to stew as she headed toward the kitchen. How utterly despicable. At first glance, she’d been awestruck by Ian’s presence. Once he opened his mouth and had the audacity to issue orders, anger swept through her. The anger didn’t stem as she filled two copper basins with unheated water and called for one of the stable hands to haul them to the guest chambers.
‘Twould cure the visitor of his wicked tongue.

I love the themed posts. So this is the beginning of Chapter 5 of my work in progress – What the Scot Hears. It’s tad more than 5 lines because the sample would have ended oddly… Mrs. Chase is a chatterbox and has a habit of disappearing. MacLeod is a man of few words.
The Noisy Bird Pub & Inn…
Day 1 of Incessant Noise/Chatter…
It was unusually warm out. MacLeod wiped his brow with a length of linen and stepped off the road onto the pavement. Och, thank God for kilts… traditionally worn.
MacLeod opened the door to the Noisy Bird Pub & Inn. He’d left Mrs. Chase there while he took care of business. It was quiet inside, which was odd, considering. The low light made seeing difficult, but gave one the illusion that the air was much cooler than it was in reality. MacLeod unerringly looked to the table where he had left Mrs. Chase sitting with a drink and a pie.
She wasn’t there.
Is this a habit of hers? Can she no’ help herself?
Laughing at the first line! Love it.
No prizes for guessing who she dances with.
