It’s been such an insane week, I forgot to write my Tidbits & Trivia post on Regency Era Cosmetics. So, instead, since my roses are blooming like crazy, I’m reposting this blog on the meaning of roses.

I’m partial to two-toned roses, but my favorite shades occuring in nature are peaches and corals, but as you can guess from my blog, blue roses are the ultimate for me.

One of the things I find so romantic about the Regency and Victorian eras was their sending messages through flowers. I spent a pleasant hour this week looking up the meaning of rose colors. 
In my current work in progress my hero breeds roses on his country estate where he has two conservatories (greenhouses).
I had to find out what a light yellow rose with reddish edges meant. My hero, Flynn, says it reminds him of Angelina’s hair. It means friendship and falling in love.
So here’s a basic rundown on the meaning of rose colors.
Red: passion, love, beauty
Pink: depending on the shade-gratitude, appreciation, admiration
Orange: fascination
White: purity, innocence
Peach: appreciation
Yellow: joy. friendship, or jealousy
Coral: desire
Lavender: love at first sight
Blue: attaining the impossible.

Here’s a line from His Scottish Rose when Angelina first sees Flynn’s rose garden:
“A fragrant rainbow anchored to the ground by soil and roots.”
