I can’t tell you how tickled I was when Amylynn Bright asked me to Beta read The Duke of Morewether’s Secret. I’ve long been a fan of her work. She weaves all that I adore in a romance novel. History, intrigue, heartache, passion, and of course. . . humor! I always, and I do mean always laugh out loud when I read her books.
Thea Ashbrook comes to London on a mission to do right by her half-brothers — not to find a husband. Homesick for Greece, she causes an incident at a Salon lecture on Greek architecture where she is introduced to the annoyingly handsome Duke of Morewether. The gossips have told her of every deviant escapade for which he’s so famous, and she is not impressed. When she discovers that his love of family mirrors her own, she gives herself permission to open her heart to him.
The Greek heroine, Thea, is a delightful change from the typical English misses. Exotic, outspoken, and not the least interested in acquiring a husband, her only concern is the care of her younger half-brothers. She wants nothing to do with London’s most notorious rake.
Christian, the wickedly handsome, and equally devilishly behaved duke, is intrigued from the moment he meets Thea. He becomes even more enraptured when she fails to fall all over him as women have always done. He’s determined to win her over at all cost.
I adore the snippets of humor interspersed throughout the story, and truly couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. There’s a surprise element in the story, which makes the read that much more captivating.
I hope Ms. Bright is already hard at work on her next book, because I’m eager to read more of her historicals.
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
