This week’s post idea comes from Elizabeth Jannette. She wants to know about our writing space.
Hopefully, you tootled over here from USA Today Bestselling author Victoria Barbour’s blog.
I’m so excited!!
My shabby chic writing room is very frou frou and girly. I love it, but I know several people who can’t stand it. Hey, the first year I wrote was in the den with hubby’s hunting trophies staring at me, accusation in their soulful glass eyes.
Most of the furnishings in my writing room are second hand. The desk is actually an antique vanity, and the bookshelf, a re-purposed dining room hutch. The overstuffed chair was left on the side of the road with a slew of other antiques when some people cleaned a house out to move. One of my dear teacher friends gave me a vintage footstool and a hand-hooked rug her mother made, which is almost 100 years old
The only new things are my desk chair and computer. Oh, and the desk cycle I just bought.
The room used to be my youngest son’s bedroom. When he headed off to college, I commandeered it!
My desk is situated to overlook my 1/2 acre back yard which is also a certified wildlife habitat. Translation: birds up the wazoo and squirrels too. I used to see deer and other wildlife until houses were built in the orchard behind my house. Now, the only other thing I see on occasion is my naked neighbor standing in his upstairs bathroom window. Thank Goodness, I can lower the blinds before I’m blinded by the site.
I have my little cup warmer for tea or coffee and a wax warmer switched on most of the time. Last summer it got so miserably hot in there–it faces the west and gets afternoon sun–hubby bought me an upright air conditioner.
I wish I had more time to curl up in the chair and read, but when I’m in the room, I’m writing.
Let’s head to Ronnie Allen’s and take a gander at her writing space.
This is a very beautiful room! I would love to spend time in it 🙂
I love my writing room. It’s the one place in the house that’s totally me!
Wow. What a girly girl room. Very sweet.
Cara,
It’s so nice to have my own little spot! My son walked in and said, “I hate it, Mom, but it’s so you.” He j just meant, it was too feminine for him.
nice to have your own special room!
It is, except my mini-dachsie, Ayva, thinks it’s her room.
Very cool room, Collette, though I expected more blue.
I do have a wall that is mostly blue rose stuff, Steve!
It is the perfect room for the writer you are! Lovely, Collette. And don’t tell my children, but I know exactly which room will be mine once it’s available! 🙂
Ha, I love that you’re planning a take-over, Brenda
This is absolutely beyond lovely! I could so write here and admire you so much for how beautifully you’ve decorated it. It fits you perfectly!
It’s a bugger to dust, though!
I adore this! It’s so soft and famine and charming. And I agree, perfect for you. Like Steven, I also imagined more blue. But it’s perfect just the way it is.
I deliberatey stayed away from too much blue. I tend to want to use it in every room!
Absolutely love your new site, every time I see it I smile. Collette. So very professional looking and pretty too. And your room is so YOU. Freaking adorable.
Thanks Jo! I like the new site too. It’s taking me a big to learn all the behind the scenes stuff. Technology is not my forte.
Your room is *so* you, Collette. =) I love that you’ve made it completely your own, no soulless glass eyes in sight. =)
It’s special to have one place I don’t have to worry about practicality or whether other people in the family like it.
This room is full of inspiration for you. It’s lovely. Although, it sounds like the scenery outside can be both lovely and frightening for you. Good thing you have those blinds to lower when you need to!
LOL, Fiona! The squirrels are super cute too.
Very nice! Love the chair.
My daughter’s cat always wants to sit in it and leaves black hair on the seat.
This is very YOU, isn’t it? 😀 Thank you for sharing your work space with us, Collette.
Isn’t funny, Raine, how we recognize characteristics of people in the things they like and don’t like?
So cool all the stories behind what you have in your room. I’m sorry about the naked neighbor though. Hmmm, maybe he belongs in a book.
Maybe as the groom, Gemma, but he’s not hero material; at least from what I’ve observed. *wink*
It looks just like I imagined. It’s beautiful, girly and so very sweet. Just like you.
Yep, I can’t get away from the girlie!
Love! The country cottage look. So suits your genre.
It does, Ronnie. I might have to throw a little plaid in there for the Scottish/Highlander stories.
I am so very jealous. I LOVE this room. Wish it were mine. I’d never want to leave it.
I waited a lot of years to get my own space. It’s wonderefu!
What a lovely room
Thank you, Virginia. I love how I feel when I’m in that room.
I adore that room, I am a big fan of shabby chic! Absolutely stunning 🙂
I’d have my whole house shabby chic of I could figure out a way to get hubby to go for it!
