Last week we chatted about our personal writing space, but this week, we get to share our thoughts on the perfect writing retreat. I hope you zipped over here form Carolyn Spear’s.Â
I bet a lot of you are thinking I’m going to pick the beach because I was born and raised along the Oregon coast. Or perhaps because of the rain we get in abundance in the Pacific Northwest, you think I’ll pick a relaxing tropical destination, but you’re wrong!
My absolute ideal writing retreat would be a month-long venture at a castle, palace, or chateau!!
Just think of the boost my muse would get in such a romantic atmosphere. Turrets, and painted ceilings, marble fireplaces, humongous beds, and secretive nooks and crannies. Dungeons!Â
And if the inside of the castle wasn’t enough to inspire pages and pages to write themselves, the grounds would give the imagination a jump start.
Fountains, mazes, garden paths, large expanses of greens, nooks and arbors for tête-à -têtes and clandestine rendezvous.
Picnics on the lawns and wine before blazing fireplaces, I’m sure I’d manage to get a little writing done.Â
Oh, and I forgot the most important part. A half dozen or so of my closest author friends. We’d have one long slumber party. Er, that is writing session.Â
I can’t wait to find out where Mikki Cober would go for her perfect writing retreat.Â
I’m with you! Simply edit out any awareness of damp or cold and imagine atmosphere. Wonderful, romantic atmosphere.
I had the privilege of touring some castles and palaces in Europe several years ago. My romantic’s heart was agog!
You did not disappoint, Collette. I must join you. What time is tea?
Oh, and crumpets too, Kim.
I would so join you there
Perhaps a multi-castle affair?
I LOVE the castle idea! Absolutely love it 🙂
I thing a group retreat is in order!
The castle retreat idea is wonderful. When are we going? Love it!
Well, we have to decide which country first…
Heavenly, exciting, enchanting, romantic . . . lovely dream and thanks for sharing!
I think there might be a castle or two in Canada. That’s pretty close to me, so maybe I won’t have to wait.
Oh yes. this would be magical.
Indeed, Steve!
I’m so in with the idea of spending a month in a castle or palace! When do we leave?
I can be ready in an hour, Betty!
I’m moving!!
Wouldn’t that be a great place to live?
