Romance Writers’ Weekly-Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
Susan Scott Shelley wants to know who the writers of Romance Writers’ Weekly would invite to dinner? Here’s her prompt:
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? Given the choice of any authors in the world (living or deceased), who would you want as a guest?
I do hope you stopped by S.C. Mitchell’s amazing blog before popping in here.
For me this is a super easy. I’d want to have Kathleen Woodiwiss for dinner. I cut my teeth on romance novels with her stories, beginning with The Flame and The Flower. Historical romances like hers are often referred to as “Bodice Rippers” nowadays, but to a young impressionable girl (I was all of sixteen the first time I read The Flame and the Flower) the stories were magical, and oh so romantic.
As many of you know, I named my daughter Brianna after the heroine Heather Brianna. Yes, she knows.
Kathleen Woodiwiss is considered the pioneer in American Historical Romances, much like Georgette Heyer has been dubbed the original Regency author. I wouldn’t mind having her or Jane Austen to dinner either!
I think I’d serve my famous lasagna and rhubarb pie. Yum!
I’m dying to know who Juliette Cross wants to have for dinner. Let’s go find out, shall we?
great authors !
I agree!
Hey, can I (Donald) come too! Can I? Can I? Rhubarb pie is my favorite and it’s only good if it’s homemade.
Of course! I’ll make homemade ice-cream too.
Ooo, even better.
And no calories either.
I love those early romance writers who paved the way for the rest of us. Did you see that they’re making a movie out of Lady Chatterly’s Lover? That was one of my first adult romances. Great post, Collette! 🙂
I love it when they make movie out of romance novels!! I watched two yesterday at my daughter’s urging.
