Romance Writers’ Weekly-Book Quotes That Dazzle
This week’s prompt comes from Jeanne McDonald – What is one of your favorite quotes from your book(s). Explain the reason why it’s your favorite and its significance to the story and characters.
I do hope you trotted over here from Meggan Connors. I adore her books!!!
My quote is from Highlander’s Hope (Castle Brides) and comes from a scene where the heroine Yvette Stapleton discovers the hero has deceived her.
“She strove for poised composure, despite feeling like a powerless pawn in a despicable game of human chess, played for the amusement of those who enjoyed tragic endings at the expense of someone else’s happiness—no—their very existence.” ~Highlander’s Hope
I think we have all been in situations we have been forced to remain composed when what we really want to do is run screaming like a crazy person or clock someone upside the head. And, I personally hate it when I feel manipulated, taken advantage of, or used.
In these quotes from A Kiss for Miss Kingsley, Virtue and Valor (Highland Heather Romancing a Scot #2) and Wagers Gone Awry (Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper #1) we see the torment and yearning of sweethearts separated by conflict.
The last lines in each of these excerpts are what stands out to me. Tortured characters make for good reading and get your readers emotionally involved! But there is also the essence of hope, and don’t we all want that?
I’m a huge fan of quotes, so I can’t wait to see what Fiona Riplee has for us.
great examples
Thanks Denise!
ALL great Collette! I love your banners!
I’m really starting to like memes!
Oh, I loved Highlanders Hope, and that is a great quote from it.
Back when I used wordier descriptions!
One of the joys of historical romances, I think, is that dramatic wording and detailed descriptions just seem to fit. Lovely quotes!
The formal wordiness! Works for me because I’m so wordy myself.
All of those were just lovely
Thank you!
Loved Highlander’s Hope!
A book quote site actually put that quote up!
Love them all but my fave is from A Kiss for Miss Kingsley.
I love taking a snippet from a book and making it into a meme!
Your Highlander’s Hope quote is wonderful. I got angry for your heroine to be so manipulated.
Me too, Fiona!
