We’ve all done it, fantasized about the job that wouldn’t be a job at all. I’m not sure whether it’s my love of history and romance, or because I love to travel, especially in Europe, but my absolute dream job would be to be a castle tour guide. Heck, I even named my first historical romance series the Castle Brides series.
Can you imagine how fabulous that would be?
Not only could I travel all over the place, but to be able to explore castles and palaces, maybe take a peek into those area off-limits to the general public. Wow!
I’m getting excited just thinking about it.
There’s something intrinsically magical and romantic about castles, but the history behind them is every bit as fascinating. As a tour guide, I’d get paid to do something I love. Plus, just think of all the research I could do for my writing!
I’m not particular about what kinds of castles I’d like to explore either. If it has a turret, moat, mullioned window, drawbridge, dungeon, tower, bailey . . . anything that remotely qualifies it a castle or a keep, I’m there!
Naturally as part of my job, I’d have to stay in the castles I visited, and even on occasion, dine in a few of them. Oh, and best of all, if there were a ball or a soirée two, I’d get to dress appropriate to the era and dance the night away.
I’d be expected to show castle ruins—if only they stones could talk—which I find every bit as fascinating as the castle themselves.
The furnishings, the architecture, the artwork . . . sigh.
Yep, that’s a job I’d never retire from.
