Mini Muse Monday-Romances Make You Fat?
Over the holiday, I had someone suggest that the readers of my romances are 300+ pound, depressed women, fast approaching their senior years. This person was teasing me and doesn’t really believe romances make you fat. They just wanted to give me a little poke about the stereotypes of romance readers and authors.
I will confess that since I started writing full-time, I have gained weight and am not as toned as I was a year ago. Ironically, I was more disciplined to exercise daily when I still taught and had less time at home. I think part of the reason is because I’m so eager to get started writing every day that I postpone my workout until after I’ve checked my email and reviewed social media.
And then I don’t get my rear out of the chair again.
That’s why I’ve decided to switch up my routine in 2016 and not touch my computer until after I’ve exercised.
My prior attentiveness to being physical fit was a deliberate decision that began many years ago, when as an avid reader who lived in an area that rained constantly, I knew I wasn’t getting enough exercise. Now, I find myself, once again, headed down that same road and recommitting myself to a healthy, active lifestyle, except instead of being a reader, I’m an author.
Actually, I’m both, which probably explains the change in the way my pants fit!
As a reader and/or an author, what do you do to stay in shape and physically fit? Do you worry that your habit or vocation might be contributing to an unhealthy lifestyle?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Wonder if accounts get asked that question? They sit all day.
A lot of professions require extended sitting! I think it’s part of the unfortunate stereotype that many people associate with romances.
need to take time to exercise before reading and writing!

I feel better when I do!
It’s sometimes really difficult, but my routine is written in stone. Monday, Wednesday, & Friday I take a Spin (killer) class for one hour, then I take a TRX class for one hour. By the time I get home, I’m beat, but I force myself to take care of emails, and all of my lovely new Soulie sister post and blogs (try to respond to all), and then after a much needed shower I write. Granted, those three days are not my most productive, writing wise; however, Tuesday, Thursdays, Saturdays, & Sundays are all mine to write.
Good for you, beginning a new work out regimen, it really does get the juices churning and opens the mind.
Wow, that’s dedication!
