This time of year, the market is inundated with holiday-themed stories ranging from short reads to expansive, multi-author sets. Most are priced quite low, and are used to generate interest in the authors’ other books.
I enjoy a good holiday story, including romances. One of my favorite memories is reading a Christmas story a day up until Christmas with my kids. And there is something romantic about Christmas time, when a couple either meets for the first time or finally admits their love beneath the mistletoe.
Heartbreak and Honor has a Christmas subplot. I didn’t plan on the third book in my Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series taking place around Christmas, but the previous stories put the timing of Heartbreak and Honor just before Christmas, so I went with it.

I met my hubby shortly before Christmas, and I still remember the first gift he gave me. He asked me to marry him January 17th, so this time of year is special for us.
I have at least eight holiday stories on my Kindle right now I hope to delve into before the season is over. It would be impossible to read them all during the holidays with everything else I have going on. I’ll still read them, because I like the authors.
That’s the topic of today’s Mini-Muse.
Do you only read books with a holiday theme or subplot during the holiday season only, or will you read the book any time?
I do not celebrate Christmas, but I love holiday stories. Somehow, all of mine seem to focus around Christmas, and a specific annual holiday ball features somewhere in each story.
Yes, the Christmas ball seems to play a big part in many of the romances I read too.
read the books all the time , don’t have to be only holidays
Good to know!
I love Christmas and I love Holiday Historical Romances best of all and read them whenever I feel in the need of uplifting, no matter what time of year. Even as a kid I have always picked up that type of book before any other. One of my favourite authors of that genre is Mary Balogh but now so many more are writing about Christmas 200 yrs ago that I cant keep up-but I try. A Merry Merry and a Happy Happy to one and all. Cheers Net.
Thank you, Netasha!
I’m an equal opportunity reader. I’ll read holiday stories – Christmas or other holidays – year round.
I’ll read Christmas books all-year round, and I’ll read non-Christmas books at Christmastime if it’s on my tbr.
