I’m not much for making New Year’s resolutions.
That doesn’t mean I don’t have a goal or two or ten for the new year, which is usually starts with trying to rid myself of the weight gained over the past weeks of indulging. However, I’ve never made a list of things I plan on doing…or not doing…beginning January 1st.
My hubby on the other hand is huge into resolutions that last a week or two at most. Perhaps that’s one reason I don’t make them myself; I don’t want the sense of failure that accompanies broken resolutions.
I started writing in 2011 and my first book was published in May 2013. In the back of my mind, there’s always been this little clock ticking toward 2015. I’m not sure why, exactly. But, with five published books, a contract for five more in the Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series, an anthology and boxed novella set releasing in January, and a good start on another series, I want to take being an author to the next level.
I’ve already reduced the time I spend teaching, but I plan on cutting back more. I’m also going to spend more time writing all those stories floating around in my head and less time posting on Facebook and other social media sites.
Oh, I don’t plan on disappearing from the social media landscape, but my books are the priority. That also means I’m going to be limiting both my posts on this blog and guest posts on others.
Staying connected with my readers is huge to me, so I’ll be spending more time with my street team and on newsletter content, as well as sharing progress on my books on a more regular basis.
That means, I’m going to have to be disciplined, and part of that discipline means eating healthier and exercising regularly. I used to be diligent at both until the writing bug hit me. I can tell the difference in the way my clothes fit, and though I adore writing, all that sitting can wreak havoc with the ol’ hips!
Another goal is to allow myself more me time and more down time. Between teaching, writing, and caring for my 1-acre landscaped yard and all my pets, I barely have time to breathe. I can’t remember the last time I had a day off and did nothing. Every spare moment has been dedicated to writing related stuff, and I’ve neglected relationships and my health as a result.
So, I’ll be saying no to a lot of things I don’t really want to do in order to do the things I really enjoy and need to do to be my personal best.
I plan on making 2015 my break-out year. I’ll check back in a month or two and tell you how it’s going.
