Elizabeth Bennet told her story in Pride and Prejudice. Now Lydia Bennet tells her side of her whirlwind marriage to Lieutenant Wickham. The youngest of five daughters with a pittance of a dowry and no hope for a good marriage, Lydia feared her life was doomed from the start. She learns how to set herself apart from her sisters and gain the attention of young men. She hones charm and flirtation to an art. Willing to take risks, she manages to acquire a substantial dowry and marries her beloved Wickham. Yet, her life remains on the brink until she gains the patronage of a wealthy Duke trapped in a loveless marriage.

EXCERPT
David leaned forward, but instead of rising to depart, he closed the door and pulled Lydia into his arms, searing her blood with his hungry kiss.
Finally, he broke away and took in a deep breath. “This pretense of disinterest is driving me insane.” He gently stroked her cheek as he admired her. “I only hope Wickham can continue his amazing seduction at his current speed. If so, we will have a foursome by midnight.”
“Do not count on it. Whatever occurs tonight will be regretted in the morning and possibly confessed to the priest unless I can convince Angelina it is nothing. A foursome would be something that not even I have done.” She then nodded at the door, and they exited.
He offered his arm which she willingly took.
Leaning towards her, he spoke in the softest of voices as they walked to the restaurant door. “If I may ask, how many others have there been?”
For a moment, his words confused her, but then she realized he inquired to how many men she had known in a biblical sense. “I hesitate to tell you, in case the number disappoints for being too small.”
His intense eyes met hers. “I cannot be disappointed, Lydia. Not in you.”
Lydia’s heart filled with joy. While her father could never find a single thing about her that pleased him, here stood a Duke who admired everything about her.
She softly replied, “I am woefully inexperienced. Only two, including my husband.”
To all appearances, David grew an inch taller from her response.
