I wrote this blog for Miss Ivy’s Book Nook while on tour for The Earl’s Enticement’s Release.
In recent days, some of these “obsessive” tendencies have been very much apparent, so I thought it would be fun to share the post again. After all, I’m cannot be the only author/reader who has an obsession.
Can I?
I Think I’m Obsessed
By
Collette Cameron
When someone first accuses you of being obsessed with something, the average person has a natural tendency to become defensive and deny the ridiculous allegation.
How dare they accuse me of being preoccupied and fixated? I most certainly do think about, talk about, and do things other than writing.
Then it hits you, rather like an elephant sitting on your chest.
You might obsessed if:
· You got rid of all but two houseplants, so you have more time to write. You, who have always had at least a dozen plants in the house for the past three decades.
· You let the housework and laundry go undone so you have more time to write. Naturally the dishes are washed and the pets are fed. Most of the time, that is.
· You have pretty much stopped cooking (hey, the kids are all grown and have left home and those salad mixes are so convenient) so you have more time to write.
· You actually found cobwebs in several corners in the house, and there seems to be a perpetual shortage of toilet paper, food, laundry soap . . . just about everything. An empty refrigerator is much easier to keep clean, you reason.
· You wear jammie pants and sweats and don’t bother to put make-up on because only the computer will see you today anyway.
· The darn mail seems to be multiplying on the den desk. Whose job is it to go through the mail?
· The weeds in the flowerbeds have taken over, and you think the yard now has a charming English garden ambiance.
Ah, piffle. (Don’t you love that word?)
I am obsessed with writing.
How did that happen? Oh, I remember. I wrote a book. Then another. Then another. And another. My brain just won’t stop producing stories.
It’s not my fault. I should never have started reading romance novels. Then I’d never have gotten the urge to write one. And once you’ve become snared as a romance reader and writer, you’re doomed.
So, yes. My name is Collette Cameron, and I’m obsessed with writing romances.
Anybody else want to confess what their obsession is?
Anyone?
