It’s such a thrill to have Carol Cork visiting my blog today. For those who might not know her, Carol hosts the blog Rakes and Rascals which features reviews for historical romances.
CAN YOU EVER HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS?
BY
Carol Cork
When I first started reading romances back in the early 2000s, my collection of paperbacks was fairly small. They easily fitted onto one shelf of a small bookcase. I gradually discovered more and more authors who became firm favourites and my collection increased to fill a complete bookcase. Then I decided to download a Kindle application for my iPad. Kindle books were generally cheaper, which was an important consideration because, being retired, I didn’t have as much money to spend on my books. I didn’t have to wait days for a book to arrive in the post either…just the press of a button and, voila, there it was.
Well, can you ever have too many books? Yes.Now I have 254 books waiting for me to read and I just don’t seem to be making inroads into reducing that number at all. I considered not purchasing any more books until I had made a substantial dent in my TBR pile, but I knew this was a non-starter. However, I am determined to restrict my purchases to my auto-buy authors only. (I did fall by the wayside this month but I am determined to be resolute from now on.) This should ensure that I am reading more books than I am acquiring.
I purchased these books because they are either by my favourite authors or come highly recommended by friends who share my taste in books. They are all books I want to read and so I’m challenging myself each month to read…
~ A book that has been languishing at the bottom of my pile
~ A book by a new-to-me author
~ A book in a continuing series or a completely new series
~ A book by one of my favourite authors
~ A book selected completely at random
To keep me focused on my goal, I‘ll be listing my selected books on Rakes and Rascals at the beginning of each month and reporting my progress at the end of the month. It will be encouraging to see my 254 books steadily reducing!
So does your TBR pile give you nightmares at night? Do you have a planned method to your reading or do you select your next book at random?
