I thought it would be fun this week to revisit my very first novel, the story idea that got me started as an author!
HIGHLANDER’S HOPE (Castle Brides)
~ ~ ~
Grabbing the towel, she glanced down and froze. The candles to her left bathed her in a stream of light. She could clearly see the outline of her legs. Her nightwear was almost translucent in the candlelight and gave him a shadowy view of— dear God—nearly everything.
No wonder he hadn’t moved, the lout.
Standing upright, she held the towel before her and faced him. “Enjoying the view, your lordship?” she snapped.
Ewan lounged against the doorframe, watching her. A slow smile tilted the corners of his mouth. “Immeasurably.”

We had lots of new authors visit last week, and a huge number of page views!
Way to go!
Don’t forget to Tweet and share the post to other social media to get more exposure for your snippets.
love it!
I love that you’re doing this. It’s so much fun to read everyone’s lines. Here are another 5 lines from The Seduction of Esther, on sale this month for 99 cents.
How could someone so clumsy create such enchanting music and hide within such a beautiful exterior? Her black curls bounced in time to the music and he stuck his hands in his pockets to prevent them from reaching out to touch them. They would be silky soft and would curl around each finger. He could imagine the smooth heat at the nape of her neck as he buried his hands in her hair and tilted her face toward him. Brown eyes would meet his, darken to burnt umber and disappear into topaz slits as she’d close her eyes in anticipation of his kiss.

I love reading everyone’s lines too. What a great description of her eyes!
Thanks!
Such fun! I am a first timer and my debut novel, Montana Wild, was released January 20, 2016. Here are my five:
He looked at Jamie covered in blankets, still unconscious from hypothermia. Holding her so close, he inhaled her scent into his lungs, savoring her essence. Pulling her into him, his lips grazed her ear, then her cheek, making him lose all track of time. Holding her within his arms he wanted to heal her, infuse his strength into her, and shield her from any more harm. Never before had he felt so protective of another being.

Thank you for a fun Friday! Roni
So glad you stopped by Roni! A fabulous snippet too.
Collette, thank you for this awesome opportunity. Below are some favorite lines from my contemporary treasure hunt/ mystery/ alternative paranormal/ ghost story romance called Chasing the Painted Skies.
Raven stared, first at the pile of clothes that pooled at her feet, at the unconscious Arthur, the shovel that went flying, and then at the dog. “Salzburg!” Rushing forward, she knelt to cradle his silken head on her lap.
“Sebastian,” he corrected as the shift took place. Lying there naked and bleeding, he rolled his eyes up to her. “I’m Sebastian, though I think it’s Salzburg you love more than me.”

Love that title!
Loved your five lines, Collette! Here are mine from PORTRAIT OF A FORBIDDEN LADY which releases March 21st
He stood before her for a long moment, his gaze
powerful and penetrating. “You are a remarkable woman who speaks well,
and with a good deal of intelligence. But just now you spoke
foolishly. After our foray by the pond, it has become clear you
want me and I want you. Even though you have no desire
to marry again, and I am not inclined to wed, we have not
finished with each other. Until we do, what exists between us
will eat away at our insides until there is nothing left of us, so
let’s bring to an end whatever we started sixteen years ago,
and then we’ll have this conversation again.”

A practical, no-nonsense fellow. And what does she say?
You created a wonderful image there, Collette. Here are some lines from my first one. Attraction has been growing but the hero went all noble on her. The heroine isn’t having it. She has invaded his house at midnight to give him a dressing down, bludgeoning him with facts from their past. And then this:
The accumulated losses in her life buried him in shared grief. The yearning to comfort her shredded the remains of his control. He took one step.
“So you see, there is nothing to ruin, nothing to protect, and no danger of fatherhood. Only me. Here. Now. I need you. Hold me. Please.”
He reached out a hand and pulled her into his arms.
In the end, it was simple. She was his beloved Georgie, and she needed him. He couldn’t disappoint her.
DANGEROUS WORKS

Okay, he’s a keeper. Sigh.
My first published was a novella written in a white heat while the novel was off with beta readers. So here’s the bit in the novel, Farewell to Kindness, where the heroine of Candle’s Christmas Chair examines an invalid chair that has collapsed in the middle of a line dance, and set me wondering how an artisan who made invalid chairs came to marry a viscount.
Lord Avery grabbed a footman by the arm as he passed. “Fetch something for my lady to draw on,” he commanded. Lady Avery, who had been talking in low tones with her father, turned and slipped her arm into his. “I am sorry, Ran.”
He looked down at her affectionately, a tall greyhound to her little kitten. “For what?”
Lady Avery waved her unused hand at the crowd. “Now they’ll all be talking again.”
He smiled, taking her hand in his. “They always talk, Min,” Lord Avery said to his wife. “Stupid cats. We don’t care, remember? I’m very proud of my lovely, clever, creative wife, and I don’t care who knows it.” He looked challengingly at Rede over her dark head.

Love that line, “a tall greyhound to her little kitten.”
From The One (The Only One) #1
She closed her eyes for a moment. Perhaps she expected that he might kiss her, but when she opened her eyes, she saw that he had turned and was once again staring out to sea.
She felt a flush of embarrassment and disappointment. She had revealed her soul to him. She wasn’t sure why, but she wanted him to kiss her, and he hadn’t. It was clear she was making a fool of herself.

I’m so glad you stopped by today, Courtney! And Woody sounds intriguing!
Thanks for the promo opportunity, Collette! It’s fun reading everyone’s excerpts. Mine is from my debut novella Cowboy in Her Bed.
In the elevator’s reflective walls, he caught her watching him. Her gaze drifted down to his dusty boots and back up to his hat,
giving him the same once over he gave her. She lifted a thin eyebrow. “Nice costume.”
No doubt she was making fun. “I was about to say the same to you.”

Okay, I’m hooked. I want to know more.
From my Regency, The Suspect’s Daughter:
His expression defied description. Whether he was aghast at her boldness, or terrified at the new path on which they’d taken a step, or simply shocked that she’d want to kiss him, she couldn’t say. Before she had too long to agonize over his reaction, he gathered her into his arms, kissing her over and over and over, a ravenous man setting upon a feast—no words of affection, no gentle touches, he simply devoured her in raw, true need.
My goodness, I need a fan.

Liz Levine is convinced her recently deceased husband is engineering the sequence of events that propels her into a new life. But it’s sea captain Edward Barrett, the husband that died over a century ago, who has returned to complete their unfinished business. Edward’s lingering presence complicates all her plans and jeopardizes a new relationship that reawakens her passion for life and love. What are Captain Barrett’s plans for his wife, and for the man who is the new object of her affections?
Here are five lines from Breakwater Beach:
Her horse snorted, pranced to one side, and reared before settling. Practised hands, clad in black leather riding gloves, showed the animal who was in charge. This woman appeared delicate, but she was strong-willed and competent.
“There now, Copper. Trying to impress the gentleman, are you?” Elisabeth rubbed the horse between the ears. T
“How do you stay in that saddle?”
“Balance and practice, Mr. Barrett.”
“Bravery and determination, Lady Baxter.”

This is from my final novella ‘Lord Brookton’ Book 4 of ‘The Four Lords’ Saga’ series.
“Don’t forget me, Jules.”
“I couldn’t forget you if I wanted to. Between the black eyes and all the bruises you have given me, how could I forget you? You are unforgettable.” Taking her face in his hands, he kissed her gently, kissed away her tears then took both hands in his and kissed them also. “I must depart, sweetheart. Think of me every day as I shall also think of you and miss you each day.” With that, he quickly turned and all but ran out the door because if he lingered only one more minute, he would never leave at all.
