My post this week comes from Her Scandalous Wish, my contribution to Once Upon a True Love’s Kiss (January 4, 2016) now available for pre-order HERE
In this scene, Bradford’s Aunt Muriel is sharing about her parent’s elopement.
~~
A faraway look entered Aunt Muriel’s eyes. “Now that’s a lovely story. Father rode his stallion right into church, swept her onto the saddle, and kissing her passionately, galloped away. The gossip was deliciously scandalous.”
“I’d like to know how Grandpapa managed the kiss, the horse’s reins, and the pews all at once. Some feat, that. Were his eyes closed? I always kiss with my eyes closed.” Bradford’s quip earned him a dark look.
~~
I’m sure I’ll be laughing out loud before we’re done today!

5 LINE FRIDAY – “The Only One”
The Only One, book 3 in the One and Only Series
Giles swung open the door of the tackle room and halted abruptly. He found himself confronting a very fetching derriere in lad’s breeches. Propping one arm against the doorframe, he smiled seeing the little minx hiding face down.
“Lose something?”
Alex spun around. “Uh, yes. Uh . . .”

Nothing like a fetching derriere!
The Right One, book 1 in the One and Only Series
Changes came over her face. Stupor—awe—surprise—and . . . anger. Although Morgan was not a patient man, he waited.
Her eyes flamed with fire. “Did I hear you correctly? Mistake?”
Morgan stopped the oath before it left his mouth. “Yes. I believe your being here is a mistake.”
“A mistake.” She echoed with a stupefied look, unseeing the crystal she held in her hand. “That’s what I thought you said.”

I think he might be in a bit of trouble.
“The True One”, book 2 in the One and Only Series
“Maybe she cares more for you than you know. Maybe she secretly yearns for you.”
What did the minx know about yearning? A possibility he’d rather not dwell on.
“Even so, a life with her is out of the question.”
“How can that be?”
“She is a Marquess’s daughter.”

Yes, how did she does yearn for him!
I love reading these each week.
Aren’t they fun? !
“The Wicked Bargain” – first face to face meeting of Lord Blackmore and sweet Arabella. London 1816
“Arabella, I believe?” His voice was smooth and thick, like honey, all sweet and enticing. She was transfixed by it.
Licking her dry lips, she finally answered, “Arabella Covington, my lord.”
If it was possible for his smile to become more inviting, it did. Arms crossed, he leaned in the doorway.

Oh, all sweet and enticing. Love that, Gina!
Great snippets. Thanks so much, Collette! Here is mine from Miss Featherton’s Christmas Prince.
“No, no, nothing like that, I assure you.” She focused her gaze on Damon. “Earlier this evening, I was passing Miss Featherton’s chamber. Although it would not normally occur to me to eavesdrop, I heard my name and thought she was calling me. After a few moments, it became clear that she was speaking to herself. What she said gave me an idea!” She beamed with satisfaction. “I have a scheme that will help you win Miss Featherton.”
He had been absently thumbing through the music, but at Miss Hiller’s last words, stopped. “What kind of scheme?”
“A good one.”

This sounds like so much fun, Ella!
This one is from Three Weeks to Wed which releases in April 2015, but is on pre-order.
“Daisy!” He walked away from the tree, turning her so that she could not avoid looking at him, and used his most severe tone. “A well-behaved young lady does not attempt to dislocate her master’s shoulder.”
She gave him a sorrowful look, and he was tempted to delude himself into thinking she understood, but just at that moment, the damned rodent scampered down the tree, and she tried to take off again. This time he was ready for her.
Blinkers might be a good idea.

I hope Daisy is a dog!
Absolutely a dog.
Thank you, Collette! I hope this is smile-worthy. It’s from To Kiss a Rake.
“No, I didn’t mean you in particular, but rather one’s natural tendency to flirt with members of the opposite sex,” Lord Garrison said. “It’s quite primitive, I think—rather like mating rituals of birds or beasts.”
Primitive, thought Melinda. What an odd word to use of flirting, which had always seemed a highly civilized behavior until now. And yet…how very enticing.
She wanted him to kiss her again.

This is great, Barbara! Love that mating ritual line.
What fun excerpts, Collette! Here are a few lines from my novella releasing next Thursday, Liliana’s Letter. The hero has just proposed marriage in a room full of people:
When he dropped her hand, her heart crashed to her stomach.
What was she doing? She wanted him, but…but… they needed to talk. She needed to make sure he knew everything.
“Wait,” she whispered.
He smiled and whispered back. “Wait?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
The room exploded in applause and shouts of “kiss her.”

Great snippets and great fun ! Here is another from A PERFECTLY UNREGIMENTED CHRISTMAS which is included in the anthology CHRISTMAS REVELS II which went up for pre order today !! Yes, I’m excited !!
“Mrs. Winters.” He inclined his head. “What are you about this afternoon? Poisoning my supper, perhaps?”
She jumped slightly but recovered to glance back down the stairs before she met his gaze. “There is no amusement in trying to poison someone who is always on his guard.” She started down the corridor. “Rumor has it you have Marley taste your food now.”
“Nonsense. I try it on that thing you insist on calling a cat.” He clasped his hands behind his back and slowed his steps to match hers.
“I must warn you I have it on the best authority Attila is immune to poison.”
He liked her. She was bright, bold, completely uncensored, and devious to a fault when it came to keeping secrets.
“Where are you going, Mrs. Winters?”

I can’t wait to read this, Louisa!
This is from my book Hidden Mortality. If you love cooking, immortals and England you will enjoy it.
“I’m looking for a book called Immortality and Witchcraft, Fact or Fiction,” Cara said.
The woman typed the title into her computer. As Cara waited, someone walked up to the other counter beside her. She turned to look. Her world stopped as she met the slate grey gaze of the man staring straight at her. This wasn’t possible. He couldn’t exist. He was just a dream lover. Yet there he was, standing next to her as big as life.

Thank you for this opportunity, Colette. I love your five lines.
This is from Her Frog Prince Holiday (Snow Globe Magic Book 2), which is included in the Season of Surprises Holiday Boxed Set, available for pre-order now.
She turned to see the cowboy striding toward her, his long legs eating up the distance.
“Don’t go,” he said. “Tell me your name.”
“The Mad Witch of Manhattan.”
He threw back his head and laughed.
The absurdity of the whole thing hit Bella and she laughed too. Isabella Cassani, uptight art gallery manager, had let her friends goad her into kissing a stranger.

Lovely snippet, Cara.
Hi Collette. Thanks for this opportunity. The following is from The Duke’s Temptation (Men of Circumstance Book 1) being released next week (October 14th) questioning if the gossip surrounding Gabe’s illegitimate daughter will ease up.
“Of course,” Millie answered in mid-wave to Lady Martin and Lady Callow as they stared and whispered intently under their parasols. “Once the next Lord So-And-So is caught with his breeches around his ankles while his wife is otherwise occupied with the head groom.”
“Aunt Millie!”
“Don’t be so dumbfounded. I didn’t teach my niece to be hoity-toity. We both know the only thing most members of the ton have in common is the ability to be complete hypocrites.”

This is great fun, Collette! Yet another reason to look forward to Fridays!
Since the Kindle version of “Fool Me Once” is free on Amazon through this weekend (http://amzn.com/B015ZB1548), I thought I would share five smile-worthy lines from Chapter Five:
Walter started walking toward the stairwell, so I followed him, inhaling deeply as we went along.
Even if he had been homely, his cologne had me practically hooked. But he wasn’t homely either.
“Do you mind telling me where we are headed?” I asked.
“What?” Walter stopped and turned to look at me. “You don’t know?”
“How would I know? Riley told me to wear something I could walk in.”
“Riley is an idiot.” Walter rolled his eyes.
