My contribution this week is from Schemes Gone Amiss (Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper, #2) which releases in December.
In this scene, Blythe Culpepper has caught the eye of a handsome gentleman.
The Adonis from the entry fell into step beside Blythe, and her stomach did that weird, squishy thing again. Up close, he was even more appealing, and his eyes weren’t brown at all, but rather an unusual topaz with dark green flecks. A deep earthy tone circled his irises, however, which must be why his eyes appeared brown from a distance.
He flashed a rakish smile, revealing well-tended teeth.
Splendid. She couldn’t abide poor grooming or hygiene.
“Hawksworth, I beg you. Introduce me to these charming ladies so I might claim a dance with each.” Though he included Brette in his appeal, his gaze never left Blythe, and the curving of his firm lips caused another unfamiliar jolt.
Poor Blythe. Should I tell her he’s not her hero?

Pre-edit from my upcoming release: One More Time is Not Enough
Against his better judgment, he stood back opening the door enough to allow her entry. He watched as she looked around at the boxes and packing materials that were strewn throughout the room. Jesus, does she have to look so fucking gorgeous. He looked away before she could read his expression.
“I was in the neighborhood. I thought I’d stop by and say hello. You’re packing.”

Courtland Burlington is a nice chap, but I have other plans for Blythe!
This is from my new release, One Tempting Proposal! (in this case, Sebastian is Kitty’s hero, but she just doesn’t know it yet) http://amzn.com/B00V3MGEPO
She’d been unable to avoid his embrace during the waltz, and she’d used their nearness here in the darkness for persuasion. But that was quite enough touching for one night. The man’s hands had a terrible unsettling power over her. He didn’t brush or lightly graze her skin. He stroked her, caressed her, as if he wished to give her pleasure rather than take his own. He almost made her want to believe the fib they were going to tell everyone—that he admired her, that he wanted her for his own.
Lovely, Christy!
Thank you! Your Five Line Fridays are so much fun.
Ah, cool! And thanks for the opportunity! This is from my gladiator series, Love & Vengeance. Gustina, the slave our hero, gladiator Marcus, saved from execution. But was he really her hero?
This was a man, a gladiator, considered a champion by this house and most of Rome. Oh yes, she had heard of him and several others. Been in the market with her Dominia and saw the trinkets that were for sale – pictures of him and others on plaques, adornments for sale, supposedly dipped in their blood and sweat, sold to give good luck and many more things.
He watched her, his gaze intense. She felt the pressure on her body but his eyes were dark, foreboding. Then he stood.

Five lines:
“You’re asking me to find your daughter and keep her safe, but you’re blindfolding me and tying my hands.” Egan couldn’t keep the disapproval out of his voice. “This is just like the last assignment. Who am I supposed to hide her from?”
O’Neal hesitated. “Everyone.” The older man leaned back in his chair with a sigh that seemed to deflate him.
Thanks for letting me play. Love all the snippets here!
Very intriguing! I want to know more!
Hi Collette! Here is a snippet from my new release HIS PIRATE SEDUCTRESS (http://www.amazon.com/Pirate-Seductress-Love-High-Seas-ebook/dp/B015CLB7CG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442232865&sr=8-1&keywords=his+pirate+seductress)
He retrieved the dagger she’d lost during her fall and slipped it into his own sheath. “You, my girl, have been left alone to fend for yerself and Jonas for far too long already. You need a man to lean on, someone more reliable than Peter…” Barnet pointed his knife at Thomas, “or him.”
“And that man would be you?”
“Why not me? I’ve known you just about yer whole life.”
“As friends.” She’d never thought of him as anything but a friend.
That is such fantastic title, Tamara! And the snippet is too.
This is my last release, The Defiant Heart (my Christmas novella, Two Rings for Christmas, coming soon!)

Were all women this difficult or had Diarmaid the bad luck to love the only one that was? Dear Lord, he couldn’t even remember the misstatement he’d made to get himself into this fix. But there Muirne was, the holder of his heart, her temper flaring as bright as her hair. Blessed Mary, Mother of God, he wished he could shake her until her brain rattled.
“Suit yourself,” he spit out, and they stalked on, side by side.
She has him flummoxed!
Wow, lots of great excerpts. Coming in a bit late, but here are a few lines from The Christmas Knot:
“My condolences,” Richard said unpleasantly. “But that doesn’t make you a governess. Surely you can find some worthy charity or other to occupy your time. Succoring the flower girls in Covent Garden or some such.”
Oh, how Edwina longed to hit him. “My husband died penniless. Therefore I am penniless, too.”
He blinked, taking it in. She didn’t blame him for being surprised. At the time of her marriage, her late husband had indeed been wealthy. Richard’s lips curled into an evil smile. “Well, but you’ve got a ha’penny left, didn’t you say?” He threw his head back and laughed.
Hmm… Doesn’t sound like a hero, does he? Well, actually, he is! And a very gentlemanly one too, for only 99 cents at Amazon. 😉

This was such a great story, Barbara!!
Don’t you love it when the wrong guy shows up and turns out to be the wrong one? Here is a snippet from my debut novella A PERFECTLY DREADFUL CHRISTMAS from the anthology CHRISTMAS REVELS. Elizabeth and Christian are engaged to be married. In fact, they’ve been engaged for quite some time. And the man has not even attempted to kiss her. But not to worry, eventually Elizabeth will be kissed and quite thoroughly too. And no one is more surprised at who delivers that kiss than Elizabeth.
A loud crash followed by a sharp, masculine cry issued from somewhere down the corridor. Elizabeth dropped the garland of holly and evergreen she’d been trimming and turned, scissors in hand, with a gasp of her own.
“There goes another footman,” her fiancé offered from behind his newspaper.
“Delacroix, really.” She stalked across the rich blue Aubusson carpet and snatched open the drawing room door. He remained seated in his comfortable chair before the fire and continued to read.
Elizabeth glanced at his Great Aunt Merryweather, nodding off in the chair opposite him. A battalion of falling footmen wouldn’t awaken their supposed chaperone. Not that it mattered.
“Yes, really, my dear. That’s the third one this morning.” He tilted the corner of the news sheet down, blinked his green eyes at her for a moment, and rattled the dashed paper back into place.Elizabeth contemplated tossing the scissors at him. However, explaining the presence of several wounded footmen to their guests would prove difficult enough. A fiancé with scissors protruding from his forehead might dampen the festivities considerably. Even if he did deserve it.
“Aren’t you coming? Someone might be injured.” She tapped her foot and swung the door back and forth the tiniest bit.
He folded the sheets in half and placed them on the inlaid Sheraton table before he reluctantly left his chair to join her. “From the din out there someone is most definitely injured. Are you determined to sacrifice all of my footmen to this Christmas bacchanalia or only a chosen few?” Delacroix pried the door from her hand.
Elizabeth tugged her overlong green velvet skirts from beneath his spotless Hessians and pushed past him into the corridor. “It is not a bacchanalia. They are hanging mistletoe.”
“They are falling off ladders and crashing into mantelpieces. Not much mistletoe being hung at all from what I can see.”
“Do hurry, Delacroix,” she called over her shoulder as she headed toward the staircase. “You’ll have to send for the physician if someone is badly hurt.”
“I’m not the one who commissioned the construction of this mistletoe forest.”
“You’re not the one who’d like to be kissed just once before she steps into the parson’s noose,” she mumbled.
