Five-Line Friday-Irresistible Charm
Romance Novel Snippets
Let’s see those characters charming the socks off each other this week!
As always, do feel free to share via your social media, and yes, you can post more than one snippet.
I’ve had readers and other authors tell me they’ve found new authors and bought their books they were so tantalized by the few lines they read on this weekly feature.
FLF RULES
- Fivelines of your current work in progress, new release, soon-to-be-released … whatever. (Do keep it as close to five sentences as you can.)
- You are welcome to post buy links too.
- PG (I don’t have a warning on my blog about content, so it has to be appropriate for all viewers. I will delete comments that aren’t appropriate or offensive to some audiences. Sorry.)
I’m sharing another five-lines from Wagers Gone Awry (Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper Book 1)
Coming April 7th.
Thanks, Collette! Here is a snippet from my just-released Lady of the Flames. Andromeda is regretting her engagement. Luckily, it will soon be over–in a very traumatic way! 🙂
“Shall I return you to your aunt?” her partner asked.
“Thank you, but no,” she said. “People will comment if we leave the floor halfway through the dance.” And that would annoy Lord Slough, she didn’t add. He could be most unpleasant when annoyed.
Oh, God. He could be most unpleasant *anytime*. She envisioned a lifetime of Lord Slough’s unpleasantness and almost burst into tears then and there.

Sigh! So excited to read this.
Nice snippet. It pulls the reader in.
“I may not be much,” he went on, “but my protection is far better than none.”
He held his breath to wait for her reply.
“Yes, but marriage!” The words burst from her in rush. “We hardly know one another, Major. The intimacy and, and the totality of marriage is difficult enough with someone you know well.” She looked ready to cry.
“Oh, Nora, I thought you understood. It wouldn’t be that sort of marriage. It may not need to be marriage at all.”

Ah, what does the major have planned?
Thank you, Collete. This is from “The Defiant Bride”:
“And where is the angel?”
“My lord?” Alyssa appeared totally confused.
“The beautiful angel I beheld in the forest. Forgive me, but I fear I have been bewitched and can think of nothing else.”

Oh, this looks wonderful, Leslie.
Thanks Collette. Here’s a snippet from the beginning of my book ‘Under The Cypress Tree’.
“I reached out and trailed a finger over the marred wood of the old Cypress tree, my heart clenching in my chest. I could still remember that day. The day when Archer Beaufait turned my whole world upside down by proclaiming his love for me with nothin’ but a pocket knife and a head full of dreams. I couldn’t believe it had been two years already. This old tree had been around long before we ever were, and would likely be here once we were dead and gone too.”

What a fabulous title, Ashleigh. Snippet too.
Thank you so much, Colette! I’m sharing a snippet from my book My Seductive Innocent which was released yesterday!
“What is it, Sophia?” Nathan clipped.
“I would like a moment alone with you, Nathan.”
“Call me Scarsdale unless we are alone. Do you understand?” He didn’t like the demanding tone she had taken. He was not his father to be browbeaten by his wife, or soon to be wife, as the case may be.
“All right, Scarsdale. I’d like a moment alone with you, if it pleases you oh Great and Mighty Duke.”
He should have been mad at her insolence, but he found it damned amusing that she had managed to make his name sound like a curse.

Thank you, Collette! Loved yours, too!
Here’s a snippet from “Untrue Colors” my most recent release. Thanks for letting me share Alex with your readers.
Abused? She did act scared when she’d first awoken. She’d been desperate enough to throw one of his possessions at his head. Her story just became a whole lot more interesting to Henry.
She shook her head and stepped back again. “I’m not pressing charges, because I wasn’t abused. I fell down the stairs, smashed my ribs, and broke a window when I tried to catch myself. Is clumsiness a crime?”
Definitely abused.

This is another book I cannot wait to read, Veronica!
Hi, Collette. Thanks so much for the opportunity. This is a little snippet from my coming historical release Only Marriage Will Do:
He burst through the doorway, expecting to defend the woman he loved, only to stop dead at the sight of a man lunging across a sofa and grasping a woman by the wrist. Amiable had half drawn his sword before he realized the woman was not Katarina, but a complete stranger. He dropped it back into its scabbard. None of his affair after all.
The young man, foppishly dressed in a robin’s egg blue satin coat dripping too many layers of frothy lace at throat and wrists, looked at Amiable, a snarl on his lips.

Now I want to know what happens next!!
I really love the snippets and your Friday blog! Here is mine from Lady Beresford’s Lover, which releases in July.
It is happening all over again! How could Rupert betray her in this way? “I cannot. You don’t love me. You love Cleo.”

Another one of yours I can’t wait to read, Ella!
Thanks for allowing us to post our sentences, Collette. My five sentences are from my historical romance, Lost Honor.
He snatched the remaining cutlass, the only other weapon they were able to steal from the
pirate ship. “Wait here.”
“I’m coming with you.”
He muttered something she was sure was another curse. “Come on, but stay behind me.”
They sped from the cave and raced across the clearing toward the forest, but before they reached it, pirates poured from between the trees.

Loreen, sounds fascinating!
Thanks for the opportunity Collette. Here are five sentences from my novel, Harcourt’s Mountain.
“You’re going to sleep in the wagon too?” Her voice was small.
He thought he’d made that clear. He had no intention of sleeping outside. He nodded over to Tobias John’s wagon. “Would you feel safer on your own with him in the same camp?”
She climbed into the wagon without another word. Hope realized that, although she felt safe with Mr. Harcourt, she suddenly didn’t feel safe from him.
