In this excerpt from Her Scandalous Wish, my contribution to Once Upon a True Love’s Kiss, Bradford sees Philomena’s burn scars for the first time.

A tear leaked from the corner of her eye, and she turned her head away from his tender expression. “They are ugly. I am ugly.”
Her nakedness didn’t embarrass her, but she found her scars mortifying. How could she expect him to become accustomed to their hideousness?
Bradford pressed his lips to the disfigurements. “I love you just as you are, whether unblemished or scarred. I want to make you my wife,” he flattened his hand over her belly, “fill you with my children, and live every day as if it is our last. I’ll never leave you again, never. You have to give me a chance to prove my love. Don’t reject me, crush our happiness, and forgo our future out of fear. Please, trust me. ”
Grab the tissues and post your tidbits!
As always, Collette, your writing hits the mark. Here’s one from An Independent Miss ~ please forgive me that it’s a touch over five lines.
Desperately, he tried for a semblance of order, ran fingers through his hair, attempted to straighten his soiled cravat. It was undone, his pin—the one his father had given him—gone. He looked to the ground, amazed that tears had come to his eyes.
Mourning held no clock, no sense of propriety. It hit when it chose to hit and damned be the man who scorned it.
Oh my!!
Happy Friday, Collette! Here’s my take on heartbreak and tears from Phantom Traces (perhaps a slightly more humorous take 😉
Dragging to her feet, Abby snapped on the lamp and glanced in the mirror. Liquefied eyeliner had turned her eyes into two black-ringed holes. Her once crisply pressed white shirt wore an erratic pattern of creases. What used to be a trendy hairstyle now looked like a black bird’s nest stuck on one side of her head. Abby groaned. But the knocking continued,
annoyingly, in regular short bursts.

Bird’s nest. Love it.
These are wonderful!! Brought tears to my eyes. And thanks so much for letting us share, Collette! Here’s mine from my story Stolen by a Highland Rogue in the boxed set Captured by a Celtic Warrior up for preorder now.
He tilted her chin toward him. “Why are you angry with me?”
“I’m not. I just…” know I cannot have you for my own husband and it breaks my heart. No, she could not tell him that.
“What?”
She shook her head, tears burning her eyes. If he could not catch her meaning, she was saying no more. She would not tell him she wished to be his wife.

And I want to know why she can’t be his wife!
Hi, Collette. Let me wipe the tears away. Lovely excerpt. Becca too.
Here is an excerpt from ‘Twelvetide’, my contribution to the three-author set of novellas–‘Enchanted Highlands’:
Tears ran unchecked over Ashley’s cheeks. “Why? Why did you let this happen?”
“Everything happens for a reason,” Aileen said. “Our Caelan has gained your love and made the ultimate sacrifice by offering his life in exchange for yours. What will you do to save his soul?”
Enchanted Highlands is available at Amazon for a limited time: http://amzn.to/1QP1Tdt
Very intriguing!
Collette, wonderful posts. Here is my snippet from “Chasing the Painted Skies”:
Raven stepped further out onto the narrow outcropping, stopping only when her toes touched the spot where the waves lapped onto the rocks. Sweeping the vast expanse, she searched for answers out where the sky met the lake. She wished her heart was half as quiet.
She wished she knew what to do.

Thank you.
Beautiful imagery!
Thanks Collette!
“I’m s-sorry. Truly. I didn’t mean…” For the life of her, Natalie couldn’t spit out another word. She’d bottled up too much for far too long.
On the heels of her grandmother’s death, the move from Austin and the flash and fancy of the holiday drumming home the missing piece of her life, she was on the edge of losing it. Of all places, in front of this man, his child and the movers, her emotions were going to pick now to fracture?

That’s fantastic! I can picture it.
Thanks, Collette. 🙂 Here’s a snippet from The Rake’s Irish Lady where Bridget, the heroine, is wishing heartbreak upon Martin, the man who is doing his best to ruin her life.
“What the devil are you muttering about?” Colin demanded.
“A curse of the Ban Shee be upon you, Martin Fallow,” Bridget translated. “May your parts shrivel and your heart break with misery and loss.”
A damned good thing, Colin thought, that neither she nor any other madwoman had cursed him in the past year, or he might actually believe in it. “Stop it. You’re giving me chills.”

I loved that scene!
What a topic! These all bring tears to my eyes, and are so very compelling!! Thank you, Collette! Here are my 5 lines from Adam: A Highlander Romance, book 11 in The Ghosts of Culloden Moor series:
I rubbed her palm with my thumb, turning my hand to hide the wound. “As a ghost, I cannae eat, and I willnae bleed, Mairi. But I will love ye forever.”
“Dinnae tell me such things,” she begged. “Tell me how ye wanted to grow old with me, raise our bairns, teach them to swim and hunt and fish.” She could no longer control her tears and neither could I.
I know! But we all have those tear-jerker moments in our books.
Beautiful excerpts, everyone! Here are my five lines from Untouchable Lover, Worlds of Lemuria: Earth Colony, book 1
The latch on Noeh’s door clicked and his footsteps echoing down the corridor were a reminder of the distance between them. A new wave of grief and humiliation squeezed her chest. She fisted her hand and slammed her knuckles against her thigh, bruising her leg, but the pain staved off the tears, at least for now.
She grabbed the brush from her dresser and ran the bristles through her hair. What would she do, now that she was pregnant with Noeh’s child?

Congrats on your new release!
Thanks Collette! My five-line-Friday contribution from The One & More (The Only One)
“So, you do think he did it, don’t you? You think he killed my parents?” Her eyes filled with tears as she stared out the window. She could see Miles, his eyes, unable to see her, fixed on the window waiting for her to return.
“Actually, I found a journal, kind of like a diary. At first, I thought I was reading the full confession of a murderer, but in the end, in the last entry he writes about his devastation and personal loss of losing Lars and Faye…” he hesitated, “And his devotion to you.”
These are amazing excerpts. Very compelling. Here’s my contribution for my newest release, Bet Your Sweet Aces.
While the circumstances tonight weren’t such that would make either matriarch happy, she needed the familial strength to see her through. Tears suddenly welled in her eyes, threatening to ruin her perfect makeup. “No, I need to do this.” She blinked rapidly and fanned her face with her hands. She was doing the right thing for her future, even if her heart disagreed.

Thank you! This is from Wish Upon a Waltz:
“Oh, how I wish I could have had just one more dance with him,” she murmured under her breath. “I know we could have been happy together.”
Anastasia blinked away the tears. She had the rest of her life to dwell on what could have been, what she hoped her future would have been like. Tonight was for giving into her folly, her desire, one night to forget the past and live in the present.

Lovely!
Hi Collette! Love all the excerpts. This is from my latest release, The Highlander’s Accidental Marriage:
Now he was twisting one of her curls around his finger. “Perhaps ye were thinking the same thing I am.”
“N-no, I don’t believe so.”
“Are ye sure?” He leaned in closer, the faint scent of the wine he’d drunk wafting over her. “I believe ye are thinking about kissing me and how much ye enjoyed it the last time.”

Very tantalizing, Callie!
I hope your holidays were wonderful!! Here is mine from Three Weeks to Wed.
Tears started in Grace’s eyes, and her voice trembled. “I am not sure I should tell anyone. I—I don’t know what you will think of me. In fact, I wouldn’t blame you if you cut my acquaintance. Oh, Phoebe, I’ve done something so stupid and incredibly wrongheaded. It wouldn’t surprise me if you cut my acquaintance.”
Phoebe tightened her grip on Grace’s hands, holding them firmly. “My dear, dear friend, we’ve known each other since we were children. Even if it turns out that I do not agree with what you’ve done, I’d not turn from you.”
