Five-Line Friday-First Kisses
I’m gearing up for my Regency novella, Bride of Falcon’s, independent release on May 4th and thought it would be fun to post first kiss scenes today.
Where authors and readers meet to share and read romance novel snippets!
FIVE-LINE FRIDAY RULES
- Fivelines of your current work in progress, new release, soon-to-be-released … whatever. (Do keep it as close to five sentences as you can.)
- You are welcome to post buy links too.
- PG (I don’t have a warning on my blog about content, so it has to be appropriate for allviewers. I will delete comments that aren’t appropriate or offensive to some audiences. Sorry.)
“I want to kiss you.”
Not more than an inch separated their lips.
“Yes.” She dared not breathe, having waited for this moment for so long, nothing must disturb the magic.
“You’re sure?” Nostrils flared, his hot gaze fastened on her lips. Ever the gentleman, Falcon paused and lifted his desire-laden eyes to hers. He brushed her lower lip with his thumb again. “You want me to continue?”
Woman’s intuition told her he asked for much more than a kiss or two. Ivonne smiled, past caring if he knew the secret she’d long nurtured in her soul. “I’ve waited a lifetime to kiss you.”
Okay, mine is slightly longer than five lines, but I get to do that. It’s my website. Remember, everyone who comments gets entered into April’s $5.00 gift card drawing!
I love how your lines show that, with all due respect to Louie Armstrong, there’s so much more to a kiss than just the meeting of lips! I can’t resist sharing ‘the kiss’ from my last book, but I warn everyone, it’s not as sweet as Collette’s!
John frowned. Then almost reluctantly, he grasped me by the upper arms and I saw his eyelids dip as he lowered his head. I closed my eyes, smiling a little in anticipation. Looking back, that was probably my big mistake. If I’d kept my eyes open, I might have seen where John misjudged angle and distance and been able to compensate. As it was, I leaned forward eagerly and passionately. I opened my mouth to his, anticipating sweet, heated contact, and he responded with a big, wet swipe across my nose.
In horrified panic, John tried to pull back and his tongue curled up as he retreated, hooking for one terrifying second in my left nostril. Unable to stop myself, I blurted out “Eww,” then fervently wished I hadn’t said anything. I stepped back, one hand clapped to my mouth, fighting the urge to wipe my face with the other, and watch, mortified, as John blushed beet red, then turned abruptly and left the barn.

I’m howling here!! Thank you for the laugh.
Hilarious! What fun.
Dying laughing! I think you were watching my first kiss, lo, those many moons ago…
Well done! That’s funny.
From Dangerous Works: The first kiss
Nora had no warning. The feel of Jamie’s arms startled her; the touch of his mouth on hers crushed her.
Knees buckled. Sensation muddled her brain so badly she almost missed the words he whispered against her lips.
“Give him something to report. We may as well make it good.”
Her world exploded.

And it sounds like Jamie really gave them something to report!
From My Lady Rogue, A Nelson’s Tea Novella #2: Simon and Gillian’s first kiss
“Come to me, my love. Let us weather this gale together.”
The words were hardly past her lips before he bent down to ravish them. Hot, invitingly sweet, his tongue explored hers with a savage urgency that enveloped her in unfathomable ways she couldn’t define. Simon was the storm always brewing within her, siphoning breath from her lungs like a punishing wind sweeping off the sea. She’d waited so long for his touch, the salty sweetness of his kiss.

Sigh. Wonderful, Lady Katherine.
Thanks, Collette. I tried to keep it to five sentences (gulp). This is from my July release, which I think will be called To Kiss a Rake. Title is not yet set in stone…
Melinda always woke before her dream lover kissed her, but not this time. His lips were warm and soft, his breath hot and laced with brandy. Her lips parted instinctively beneath his, and she heard herself give a little moan of pleasure. The tip of his tongue slipped between her lips and touched hers.
The coach came to a halt, and her eyes fluttered open as she woke. The obnoxious lord who’d sworn he wouldn’t touch her broke the kiss, still holding her in his arms. She shoved at him, but he held fast.
“How dare you?” she cried.
What a perfect title for this week’s excerpts, Barbara.
From my latest western historical, BALLAD BEAUTY: The First Kiss
Jenny raised her tear-stained face as she clutched his shoulders for support. Noah brushed his knuckles across her soft, wet cheeks. “I’m so sorry, honey.”
His hand slipped to the back of her neck and drew her close to him. He needed to comfort her, and so he did it the only way he knew how.
He kissed her.

Love that title, Lauren.
Nicely done, Lauren. The sentence structure enhances the action.
Collette, I liked that the female character strikes me as an independent woman who knows exactly what she wants and is smart in knowing how to get it. She as a lady is somewhat reserved and allows the man to take the lead. However I’m sure that the kiss let him know how much she had wanted this kiss. P.S. I’m 77 been single for a long time so I’m trying to remember.lol.
Oh, Marcie, you made me smile.
From “Shipmate” (working title):
“My darling,” Myron said in a tone of vague apology, “I hope you will not mind if the captain and I manage a bit of business while you accustom yourself to your new surroundings.”
“Of course not. You needn’t constantly watch over me.”
Bella reached up on tiptoe to place a soft kiss on Myron’s cheek, the first time she had done so unprompted, the first time since their only kiss at the church before they set sail. He seemed a bit dazed by this small attention, fingers moving to his face to touch the spot, then squeezing her hand in a fond farewell.
Captain Johnson snickered, cut short by Myron’s boot to the back of his leg as they walked away.

That one made me smile.
Myron sounds like a sweetie.
Thanks, Collette! This is fun! I love the snippets I’ve read above. Such a creative group of writers! Here’s my contribution. From my April 21 release, Samantha’s Secret. The first kiss between Samantha and Trent:
The change in his demeanor occurred in a flash. So fast she barely had chance to assimilate the shift from sarcasm to sincere, from trifling to tempting. He couldn’t be considering what he was apparently contemplating. Such behavior was improper as a minimum, and possibly even immoral. She gasped when he leaned toward her, closing the dwindling distance in a heartbeat. His breath carried spearmint when he exhaled before pressing his lips to hers.

Hello! I love Fridays now – it’s so fun to read all these great little snippets. This is from my May 6th release, Going Rogue (A Ribbons and Rogues novel).
He wanted her to remember him, remember this moment. He kissed her with every intention of scarring a memory into her consciousness so that after this, every kiss she’d ever receive would pale in comparison to his. He poured every ounce of himself into it—every feeling he’d ever hidden, all the love he’d ever felt for her. His tongue plunged deeper, exploring the secret places inside her mouth.
This kiss was the requiem for what was to become his past.

Now, that’s some kiss!
Great kissing going on here! This one is from my new release The Gentle Knight. A first kiss:
Then his firm lips were on hers. His hard length pressing her into the table, as if trying to meld them together. Her body would gladly have done just that if only it could have turned to pure liquid instead of just a growing warmth where his hips grinded into her.
He pulled his head back enough to search her face. He was breathing hard. He looked bewildered. “Is this what you want then?”

And how does she answer? I’m dying to know!
Great kisses!
This is the first kiss from Lady Elinor’s Wicked Adventures:
He pushed his hand into her hair to hold her head and brought his mouth down fiercely on hers. One kiss to last him a lifetime. For this moment at least, he would possess her. He coaxed her mouth open and slid his tongue in. He could feel her startled gasp, but he didn’t care. He needed to taste her. She tasted of lemonade. For the rest of his life, lemonade would bring back this moment.
These are all lovely, and I so want to read what happens next! Mine is from Farewell to Kindness, regency romantic thriller, released last week.
He came closer and closer, slowly. He would stop if she protested. She should protest. She would not.
The first brush of his lips on hers was brief, and light as a feather. He drew back enough to look into her eyes, then leaned in again. This time, his lips landed and stayed, moulding to the shape of her mouth. After a moment, he began to move, cruising along her upper lip with tiny pecks and then along the lower. He settled again, this time his mouth slightly open. Was that his tongue, sliding along her lips? How odd. How… pleasant.
She opened her own lips, and was rewarded with a hum of approval before he dipped his tongue into her mouth. Tentatively she touched his tongue with her own, which sent a tingle down through her breasts to her belly.
He hummed again, this time almost a moan.

Very enticing, Jude.
Hi Collette and readers – waving from a very WET day in NZ. First kiss from my WIP, A Whisper of Desire – Dec 2015.
Marisa’s mistake was to look into Maitland’s clear green eyes, for they trapped her with pure heat. Unable to resist, she leaned in and her tongue slipped out to touch his. At the small sigh that unintentionally escaped from her, the normally cool and contained duke disappeared, and with a groan so filled with longing he pulled her deep into an embrace, and his lips firmly, but gently, took hers in a kiss that was, oh goodness, so much more than anything she’d ever experienced in her life. It thrilled and frightened her. Frightened her because she was consumed with want and need and hunger . . . and this was Maitland Spencer, the Cold Duke.
“Open, little one,” he commanded in a voice laden with desire, and she did. His tongue swept into her mouth and each relentless stroke was like heaven.

Waving back, Bron.
He doesn’t sound like such a cold duke!
What great excerpts!! Here is mine from Lady Beresford’s Lover, book #8 in The Marriage Game. Releases July 21st.
Vivian hesitated. “The dance floor is the other way.”
“I know.” The last few days of being in her presence, and always with others, had decided him. She was his, and this evening he would not share her. It was past time she was made to realize how he felt, how much he wanted her.
Rupert placed his lips close to her ear. “I wish to be alone with you.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. “You do?”

Such a temptation, Ella.
Hi Collette, love the kisses! This is the first kiss from Lady Faith Takes a Leap – The Baxendale Sisters. Released June 1st.
She had disappointed him. Faith drew in a deep breath as emotion coiled within her, and the even more terrifying realization; she was disappointed in herself! She took a step closer and launched herself into his arms.
With a grunt of surprise, Vaughn caught her, stepping backward.
“I need you to kiss me,” Faith said urgently.
Vaughn recovered quickly, his strong arm around her waist. He steadied her his hand on her back. Up close, she studied his handsome face as his dark brows peaked above confused green eyes. “I’m happy to oblige, but why?”
Her hand rested on his broad chest, her heart hammering foolishly. Flushed with embarrassment at her act of rebellion, she wriggled to free herself. “I’m sorry I…”
Vaughn’s mouth crushed hers, his arms enfolding her against his hard body.

I don’t know who is more surprised, Maggi!
Kisses come in all sorts and flavors. LOL
Yes, they do!
