In this scene, fed up with Ewan’s over-protectiveness, Yvette is giving him a piece of her mind.
“I fled Boston in the middle of the night with scant more than the clothes I wore. I crossed an ocean—in the company of Mrs. Pettigrove, no less—and was chased on London’s docks. Edgar broke into my chamber the very night I arrived in England, and we were nearly trampled by a team of horses yesterday.”
Her voice had risen to a shout. “And you didn’t want me to worry? I’m way beyond worry, you arrogant dolt!”
Last week we had a romping good time! Lots of familiar authors popped in and a few newbies too! I’m so looking forward to this week’s tidbits.
Thanks, Collette. Nice snippet. We get a good picture of Yvette’s emotional state in just a few lines. And they indicate much of what has happened, with hints of more to come.
Here are five lines from my work in progress, “The Weeping Dragon”.
“Dearest uncle, a great lord such as yourself must have many enemies, and any of them might be to blame for what happened to Dorrit.”
Reginald glared at Joan. “But most of my enemies are men. If a man hates me enough, he’ll just take out his sword and slay me. But a plot this devious, this elaborate, this twisted—no, this is the work of a woman. And the only woman with reason to hate both Dorrit and me is you!”
As always, feedback is welcome. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Mary Anne. I love the tidbits from “The Weeing Dragon”!
Thanks, Collette. But nobody else is here. Everyone’s in New York!
Yes, they are! I was supposed to go, but then we changed our plans. I have two conferences I’m presenting workshops at in August, two festivals to attend, two book signings, and a trip to the southern Oregon coast to celebrate my father’s 75th birthday. Plus, we’re having new floors put in.
Loved both of the excerpts, Collette and Mary Anne! Here are five lines from my newest sci-fi romance story, Alienne Mine, a Prequel to Dragon Dawn. A human astronaut, Ed McAdams, shows his true feelings toward the alluring Alienne as she experiences kissing for the first time. 🙂
“I must say goodbye, Edward.”
He drew her close and whispered, “With a kiss.”
He touched his lips to hers, and her twin hearts leapt in wonder. A gentle caress, the soft, shared breath of two living beings. A mark of his world, alien to her but entrancingly familiar given how long she’d watched humans loving one another.

I adored Dragon Dawn, so know I’ll love this one.
Thank so much, Becky! I can’t wait to hear what you think of my blue-green Alienne! <3
Thanks… Where is my editor? lol
I loved that line, “her twin hearts leapt”!!
Thanks, Collette. I had to walk a tightrope trying to make her a different being, yet beautiful and close enough to a human so Edward finds her attractive.
I’m here! 🙂 (After a lengthy hiatus doing an intense book release.) Missed FLF! Thanks, Collette. 🙂
From my first (romance) book baby, Royal Regard, which is on sale this week for 99c, because it is my birthday! 🙂

“My lady, if you wish to retain my favor, you will have to stop saying, ‘a man like you.’ Otherwise, I will think you far too familiar with incurable rogues.”
He kissed the top of her head again as she giggled, “You are incurable. But that is not what I meant at all.”
“Indeed?” He tipped her chin up. “You don’t think me a rogue?”
“Oh, you are a rogue, Sir.” Her eyes danced. “I’m afraid there is no question of that.”

He sounds like a delightful rogue!
Here is a snippet from my WIP, The Forgotten Debutante, which is set for release next March.
She opened the door to the cool carriage house. Diffused lighting came through the windows near the roof line and the air was a familiar, comfortable combination of hay, horse dung and leather. Saffron took a deep breath as she waited for her eyes to become accustomed to the light. Biscuit nickered a greeting, so she moved in the direction of the horse’s stall.
And came to an abrupt halt.
The apples, which Saffron kept in a bucket to dole out to the horse, were all gone. As were the carrots. Someone had been in this carriage house, and possibly still was.
Oh, Becky, this is fabulous!
Nice vivid passage. The multi-sensory descriptions make it almost seem like the reader is there.
And the last few senses make me wonder: What’s going on? What happens next? Thanks, Becky.
Great snippets, everyone! Thank you, Collette for giving us Five-line Friday!
This excerpt comes from my novella in the boxed set, Sweet Summer Kisses. It’s called ‘Treasure Beyond Words’ and will be released separately sometime in September.
Amelia glanced at Hugo from beneath her lashes. His eyes were closed and his head had tilted sideways. Ignoring a prickle of guilt, she studied his face, absorbing every detail to recall and hold close through the lonely years ahead. He did not move; not even a flickering eyelid upset his stillness. This was not a man to commit debauchery and worse against a woman.

You’re welcome, Heather!
This is from book one in the Midworlder Trilogy called Unknown Protector. Ridge is an bad boy angel but Nicole has to trust him.
“I suggest you close your eyes and give your mind over to me,” he whispered.
Nicole shook her head and tried to get herself back to reality, whatever that was. “I’m not going anywhere with my eyes shut after tonight, and from what I’m picking up at times your mind seems a bit murky to let you in again.”
“Suit yourself darling, but don’t blame me if you pass out.”
Pain sliced through her temple. She squeezed her eyes shut and instinctively hugged Ridge tighter. His thoughts were in her head again telling her to relax, but this time it wasn’t working. She tried to hold down the rising alarm of what would happen next. Somehow she had an inkling it wasn’t going to be good.

A bad boy angel? Hmmm…
Nice sensitive passage. Thanks, Heather.
Love these snippets. And my TBR pile does not need to get any bigger! Here’s a short passage from A Baron for Becky, to be released not this coming week but the next. (Yikes!)
She reminded herself again and again, love was not part of their bargain. He would give her and Sarah a home and respectability. She would give his daughters a mother and him the child in her womb. If she were foolish enough to fall in love with him, she would not burden him with that knowledge.
And my book page. http://judeknightauthor.com/books/a-baron-for-becky/
Thanks, Jude. My TBR pile can be seen from outer space.
Nice dramatic snippet. It implies a lot. Good luck with your upcoming release!
Congrats on the soon-to-be release!
