Fabulous Five-Line Friday-Stubborn Lord
I’ve changed the name of this weekly feature to Fabulous Five-Line Friday. The previous title of Fanciful and Fabulous Five-Line Friday was too long and contained too much alliteration. However, it continues to be a very popular with Blue Rose Romance Blog readers.
I especially love it when another snippet of a previous week’s book is shared and we get another peek at a great romance. I also love providing romance readers and writers a chance to connect.
FFLF Rules
1. Five lines of your current work in progress, new release, soon-to-be-released … whatever. (Do keep it as close to five sentences as you can.)
2. You are welcome to post buy links too.
3. PG please. (I don’t have a warning on my blog about content, so it has to be appropriate for all viewers. I will delete comments that aren’t appropriate or offensive to some audiences. Sorry.)
I’m gearing up for Wager’s Gone Awry’s release at the end of the month with another morsel from the story.
The Culpepper Misses are always up to some mischief.
In this scene, stubborn Lord Ravensdale has left his bed despite a nasty concussion.
~~~
He stood in his stockings, buckskins, and gaping shirt, looking for all the world like the man of the house. Pain darkened his eyes to jet and ringed his mouth in a tense, white line.
The idiot. Brooke feared he’d plop onto his face at any moment. Serve him right, odious man, except he’d probably sustain another injury and blame her. My God, all she needed was for Ravensdale to injure himself further while in her home.
A week’s worth of tension erupted. “If you don’t let me go right now, you’re going to find yourself up to your curls in litigation,” she retorted, yanking out of his grasp. “I have a lawyer, and I know how to use him.”
Restin arched an eyebrow at her. He smiled. “We can do this nice, or we can make your existence so miserable you’ll wish you were in hell.”
He obviously hadn’t been to New Sinai.
AND JERICHO BURNED http://tinyurl.com/ml9wzc4
Oooo Nice.
Ah, now there’s some conflict!
The major had evaded her questions about his background.
When he did speak, he spouted nonsense all the way to Santo Spirito.
Nora had watched helplessly while the major bantered in Italian with the irritable sister who guarded the gate; the nun’s eyes grew wide.
Just when Nora thought they would be turned away, the old woman chuckled to herself and let them in.
Whatever he had said sounded like it was inappropriate, but it worked.
So he can charm a sister…dangerous man.
Incorrigible flirt.
What a great idea, Collette. Thank you for sharing this…very generous of you!
5 sentences from my upcoming Georgian romance, The Lady Meets Her Match (Midnight Meetings, book 2)
Cyrus looked over his shoulder, her blond head
close to his back. “Careful, Miss Mayhew, or you’ll
admit out loud you want more to happen between us.”
“Are you flirting with me, Mr. Ryland?”
“That would be a skill I’ve not mastered.”
If he read her right, he was closing in on the hunt
for the elusive proprietress.
Gina
Gina, this has been such a popular feature, and I love getting a glimpse at so many fascinating stories.
From my second book of my gladiatorial series, Love & Reckoning, is a snippet when our heroine, Aurelia, pushes her brother to buy the Celtic barbarian, Ganius –
“Oh Caius, can you imagine? He defeated three gladiators! The odds stood against him!”
“They were not from the best house….”
“But they were gladiators,” she argued and bit her lip. “Brother, the man must be blessed by the gods to have won so, and to win over the crowd to spare his life.”
Oh, gladiators are so yummy, Gina!
This snippet is from Lady of the Flames, which is up for pre-order now and comes out in only 10 days!! Fen, the wielder of knife magic, has just learned that his business partner, Harry Wellcome (no, that’s not a spelling error; I like the extra ‘L’ in his surname) is accused of treason.
You cannot clear Wellcome’s name,” the marquis said. “Therefore, I require that you get him out of the country immediately.”
“He’s not my servant; I can’t just order him to leave,” Fen said.
“Allow me to clarify,” the marquis said. “One way or another, Harry Wellcome must go. If he were to die suddenly, the problem would be solved. I can arrange to have him dispatched, if you prefer that solution.”
Fen knew his father for a ruthless man, but incredibly, he was suggesting that Fen agree to the murder of his closest friend. The awl quivered, and his whittling knife thrashed, ready to exact retribution for this vile suggestion. *Cease*, Fen ordered his tools.
I have a couple of books in front of this one, but I cannot wait to read it, Barbara. Each time I read a snippet, I am more intrigued.
Thanks so much, Collette! 🙂
From La Déesse Noire: The Black Goddess, by Mariana Gabrielle
“But now that the /Vikanṭa/ is taking care of us, can we not both live in the house he is renting? /Mata/ said he would see us treated like ladies.” Kamala pulled the bonnet over her pigtails, posing in front of the cheval glass with a fleeting expression far too serious for her age, the way she presumed a lady might look in a new hat.
Kali set down the fabric samples and tugged on the brim. “No /tawaif/ will be treated like a lady in London. Rohana spoke fairy tales.”
From Shy Violet,a Wildflowers of Scotland novel, coming soon from Second Wind Publishing. (Contemporary Romantic Suspense) The links are for Wild Rose and Blue Belle, the first two Wildflowers of Scotland novels.
The wind buffeted Violet’s face and the chilly air, gulp after gulp of it, tore at her lungs. Had Alexander realized she was gone? How much time did she have to get away? Why hadn’t she done this when they were in Edinburgh, where she could have dashed into a store, ducked down an alley and disappeared into the throngs of people wandering up and down the Royal Mile? No. She’d chosen to try to make her escape at a castle surrounded by water on three and a half sides, accessed by one east west road squeezed between a mountain and a loch.
Sounds like Violet is in it up to her neck!
From my WIP:
Susannah Myers pummeled her husband’s shoulders as tears streamed down her face. “You can’t leave me! Leave us! How will we ever survive?”
William grabbed her hands and held them in his. He kissed her rough fingers and then touched her lips softly with his. “It will only be for a few months, Susannah. I have to volunteer.”
Susannah moved away from him. “Five children, William, and the oldest of them only nine years old. How can I possibly care for them? And take care of the farm? Will the Union put food on our table? Split wood so we’ll stay warm this winter? How can you even consider it?”
Very intense, Becky!
From Tempting the Pirate http://tamarahughes.com/books/
He crushed her to him, his lips claiming her with so much passion, her legs wobbled. James tightened his hold, and her heart warmed. Never gets jealous, indeed. If she hadn’t been busy kissing the most infuriating man in the world, she would have grinned. Instead, she relished the moment, his strong arms around her, his mouth on hers.
Oh, a pirate romance!!
She tried to move. “You can let me go now. I’m sure the ladies are waiting for you.”
His eyes smiled into hers. “That almost sounds like jealousy.”
Of course it did. She was jealous, but she was not about to let him know that. “Don’t be ridiculous. If you remember, I left as soon as you arrived. Why would I be jealous?”
“So, you’re saying you’re unaffected by me?”
What game was he playing? Portia found her gaze riveted on Grayson’s lips, watching them move, wondering what they would feel like. She shook her head. What had he asked?
“Of course I’m not jealous. Not every woman wants to fall into your bed.”
“Liar. I can feel your heart pounding in your chest.”
A TOUCH OF PASSION http://www.bronwenevans.com/the-disgraced-lords-series/a-touch-of-passion/
Bron, Grayson sounds very naughty!
So many great excerpts!! Here is mine from A Kiss for Lady Mary which is on pre-order.
Lady Mary Tolliver heaved a sigh of relief. She’d been at her brother, the Earl of Barham’s dower house with her grandmother, the Dowager Duchess of Bridgewater, and her widowed aunt, Lady Eunice Phipson, for two weeks now. Thankfully, there was still no sign of her cousin, Gawain Tolliver. Perhaps he’d finally given up attempting to compromise her. She’d been taking her regular walks after breakfast for the past week. But this morning, she remembered advice given to her by a friend to vary her schedule as long as Gawain was after her and had decided to go earlier.
She was about a half mile from the house when a familiar male voice asked, “How much longer?”
Oh, that rotter Gawain. I remember him!
Thanks Collette!
“Then what might I do for you, my lady?” His gaze came to rest on her eyes. Hazel? Brown? Dashed glasses reflected light. How shortsighted was she? Ladies so seldom wore glasses; even his mother refused to be seen in them. “You have a problem?”
Lady Honor clasped her hands in her lap. “I wish you to find someone for me.”
The request seemed so incongruous that Edward found himself staring. He gathered his wits. “Someone you know has gone missing?”
Not missing, precisely. I want to learn his whereabouts. Where he lives, what clubs he belongs to, the gambling houses he frequents, that sort of thing.”
“My dear Lady Honor, I am a solicitor, not a private investigator.”
Oh, I like them already!
Oh, what a great idea, Collette! Let’s see, five lines from IN BED WITH A SPY…
“I don’t want to stroll, Angelstone.” She tossed her head, the
curls around her face flirting with him. Her eyes met his
straight on. Bright. Steady. Full of challenge. “I want to dance.”
The force of her eyes, her words, hit him full in the chest.
She wasn’t talking about dancing. At least, not in a ballroom.
Very nice, Alyssa!
