Well, we survived the first week of FFFLF on the new blog. Still a few kinks to work out.
One thing that drives me nuts about WordPress is that if I haven’t previously approved you for comments, your comment sits in WordPress timeout waiting for me to decide if you go on the naughty or nice list. I tell you this so you don’t freak out if your comment doesn’t show up right away.
FFFLF RULES
Five lines of your current work in progress, new release, soon-to-be-released…whatever. (Do keep it as close to five sentences as you can.)
You are welcome to post buy links too.
PG please. (I don’t have a warning on my blog about content, so it has to be appropriate for all viewers. I will delete comments that aren’t appropriate or offensive to some audiences. Sorry.)
My snippet is from The Earl’s Enticement (Castle Brides Book 3)

The strains of a waltz floated by on the overly-perfumed air. One of his hands rested proprietorially against the curve of her ribs, Adaira allowed Roark to guide her onto the floor. The room glowed from hundreds of candles resting in golden chandeliers and wall sconces. Would he really kiss her in front of everyone?
~~~
All righty then; let’s see what other tid bits we get to read this week!
Thanks, Collette! This is from my March release, Lady of the Flames, which just went up for pre-order at only 99 cents:
Fen’s mind raced through the possibilities of what Andromeda’s arrival just before dawn, exhausted and distraught, might mean.
A knife on the roof beside her was making its presence known. *Be still,* he told it. Was that blood on the blade?
Regardless of what had happened to her, he couldn’t afford to have a woman on the premises, especially not this woman, and especially not now.
I’m so looking forward to reading this Barbara!
From Dangerous Secrets, coming March 18
A public kiss?
Nora’s mouth softened under Jamie’s, and he nudged hers open. His gentle invasion set her reeling. After what felt like a lifetime, he slid his hands to her elbows and put her away from him with a wink. Cheeky man.
The count’s little watchdog scuttled off under Jamie’s fierce glare. Nora slumped against Jamie. He put a steadying arm around her and watched the man go.
“That report should be interesting,” he said, dropping his arm and putting distance between them.
Jamie is a scallywag!
He is indeed. They are “betrothed” at this point in the story. Later they are “married,” and then, oh my, **married**.
LOL!
This first kiss is from my contemporary Western Sweet and Wild:
Maybe the same thoughts and desires went through her mind too because she turned her head, lifted her face to him enough for him to reach her lips with a light caress. That she put herself in this position was surely no accident. No, he felt her mouth open to his.
Who’d have thought this tough, strong-willed cowgirl could have such a gentle touch. The soft movement of her lips against his fueled a wildfire in his body and head. In the middle of the entire town of Falstad and the guests of Long Knife Creek wasn’t the place to explore these heady desires.
Love cowboys!
Thanks for this opportunity to share, Collette! It’s quite a challenge to choose what to share. This excerpt is from Emily’s Vow, a romance set in Charleston, SC, in 1782, the end of the American Revolution.
Frank stood so close his breath stirred the curls tickling the sides of her face. He smelled of peppermint, wool, and the tangy smell of ink from the press. His eyes became deep pools she wanted to lose herself in as he studied her face.
“I should give you fair warning, my love.” Frank trailed a finger over her parted lips. “I plan to kiss you.”
His deep voice flowed over her, through her, fueling the sensations smoldering in her nether regions.
Betty, it’s so good to see you here this week.
Thanks Collette!! From my 2nd book in my Ancient Rome gladiator series, Love & Reckoning – the first kiss between Aurelia & her gladiator, Ganius.
So soft, warm, a hint of cleanliness enrapt in the body of Roman woman he held.
He could forget her parentage just for the moment.
At her silence, the gleam of her gaze told him what he wanted to hear – or the wine made him think so. “Mayhap I can help you this way.”
Before he could stop himself, he kissed her.
Great snippet, Gina.
In my WIP the h/H have not kissed yet! Oh my! I wonder if I should be turning the heat up earlier, LOL!
So I’m sharing a few lines from my September 2014 release, Bella’s Band, which is .99 through March 2nd at Amazon– http://amzn.to/1m100hB.
Here it is:
His lips hovered over hers and she waited. He’d kissed her nose–perhaps he’d been aiming for her mouth and missed. She wanted one more kiss. She would be safe. In a carriage on a public street, he wouldn’t attempt to take more.
Happy Friday, everyone!
LOL. Kissed her nose; how cute.
Your new website is gorgeous!
This is from La Déesse Noire: The Black Goddess, which will be available for pre-sale March 13.
Peggy had already pressed and hung the sheer sari and scarves Kali wore to entice men into the spell of her dance. The jeweled headpiece that covered her hair had been locked away, the hammered gold girdle that circled her small waist set aside to be polished. The finger cymbals and yaaḻ harp and tabla drums were back in their cupboard. The maid had removed the kohl from her eyelids, burnt ash from her lashes, the paint from her cheeks and lips, the pearl dust from her shoulders and the swell of her breasts. Peggy patiently dragged the boar-bristle brush through her long hair to remove the glittering brilliants that shone under the lights.
Kali’s whole life was nothing but flash and noise and trickery, she thought, designed to fool the world into thinking she was something special, something worthy of exalted attentions, not a convenient tool to be used by her father, by her lovers, by virtually every man who crossed her path.
Thank you Mari!
Hi Collette. Thank you!! This is from A Kiss for Lady Mary that releases on May 26th.
Mary waited and waited as time seemed to stand still. Kit was so close. She’d been sure he was going to kiss her. Then he moved away. She could have screamed with frustration. This was so unfair!
Just in case someone missed my novella in Christmas Revels – Four Regency Novellas, here is a snippet from A PERFECTLY DREADFUL CHRISTMAS. Still available at the usual outlets. I hope to have the sequel – A PERFECTLY SCANDALOUS BRIDE – finished soon.
She’d mused on it for hours. They’d decided to manage her. Misplaced loyalty to her dead brother had them feuding over her like a stray dog they’d taken to feeding at some tavern. Her slippers slapped a brisk tattoo against the burgundy Aubusson carpet. Her hands folded into tight fists at her sides. “I’ll be dashed if I need Lord Winterbourne and Lord Major Nicholas St. Gabriel to drag Delacroix to the altar like a felled deer. I am perfectly capable of—umpf!”
Elizabeth had turned the corner and run into a solid wall of well-dressed muscle. A pair of strong arms came around her. She perused the black dinner jacket, black waistcoat, fine lawn shirt, and neatly tied neck cloth until she came to the dimpled chin and sharply angled face of the last man she needed to see whilst dressed in her nightdress and dressing gown.
“You are capable of a great many things, Miss Sterling.” Nicholas stepped back and inclined his head. “Reading minds must be one of them. I was looking for you.”
She executed a brief curtsey. “Were you looking for Miss Sterling or Elizabeth?”
“Are they not one and the same?” He didn’t smile. Something very like amusement glinted in his eyes and softened the stark lines of a countenance redrawn by injury and loss.
“That depends. Are you Major St. Gabriel, my lord the Earl of Leistonbury or just Nicholas?” All her worries about scandal and gossip and here she stood flirting with her betrothed’s closest friend in her nightclothes, no less. And it was wonderful.
“Touché, Elizabeth.” Her name rumbled from his lips in the dark baritone that had haunted her dreams for years. “For you I am Nicholas. Just Nicholas.”
Snow spattered against the window at the end of the corridor. One floor below a door slammed. The house creaked in protest of the storm battering its walls. And Elizabeth marveled at the thrilling comfort of the sound of a man’s unsteady breathing as he gazed into her eyes.
“Was there something you wanted? Nicholas?”
I read it, too, and I agree with Collette. I’m looking forward to the sequel. 🙂
