Details and Conundrums-Romance Writers’ Weekly

My Writing at the Moment

This week, Raine Balkera wants to know what everyone is writing at the moment. All the details & conundrums, plus five bonus points for including a wee bit of our favorite scene.

I know you had a real treat if you made your way over here from Brenda Margriet‘s.

I’m grinning because I just finished Wagers Gone Awry, (Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper Book 1)  and, now I’m working on Heartache and Honor, (Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series Book 3).

Switching from one series to another is scrambling my brain.

So, Heartache and Honor is the Duke of Harcourt’s story. He was first introduced in Highlander’s Hope (Castle Brides) and has made regular appearances in all the Castle Brides books as well as Triumph and Treasure and Virtue and Valor (June 2015)  of the Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series.

I’ve paired him with a Scottish Gypsy, which are actually called Highland Scottish Travellers.

Here’s a snippet from the beginning in its raw, unedited form.

Metal scraped metal, and she her lungs cramped.

A key? Did he … they … whoever, possess a key?

Her heart careened to her boots and then jolted lightning fast to lodge in her throat. She swallowed a gag. Only the Blackhalls held the key to this chamber.

Tasara dried one damp palm, then the other, on her skirt. Did she have it in her to stab anyone? To protect the others, she’d have to despite her squeamishness.

A click announced the lock giving way. Creaking in protest, the door edged open inch-by-cautious-inch. Light from the corridor’s brackets illumined a sinister, black-clad form in the entrance. Disheveled and coat unbuttoned, a pistol protruded from his waistband. He held a sword at the ready.

A pirate in the Scottish Highlands?

She blinked, mentally slapping aside the ridiculous notion.

For a split second, Tasara feared the ethereal body Satan himself, except she doubted the devil possessed snowy white hair and had need of a blade to do mortal damage. Fallen angel perhaps? She tried to see the man’s face. The shadowy interior hid his features except for a well-defined profile and strong jawline.

Evil men weren’t supposed to be take-your-breath-away handsome.

Okay, now let’s sneak on over to my good friend, Leslie Hatchel’s  and see what conundrums she has going on.

Don’t forget, all commenters on my blog posts in the month of March will be entered in a drawing for a $5.00 gift card.
