Anne R. Allen’s Blog: 5 Protagonists Readers Hate: Why Writers Shouldn’t…

Both readers and writers will benefit from reading this very informative blog. I know as a romance reader, I’ll come across  a character one in a while that drives me bonkers, and no matter how good the writing is, I just can’t get beyond that character.  They’re a pebble in my shoe, as they’d say during the Regency Era. 



I can think if a specific story where the heroine never did redeem herself in my eyes. To this day, I think she was a twit and would like to slap her silly.  I had to write a review for that book, so I focused on what I liked and not the idiot heroine. 

I’ve had a couple of readers absolutely hate some of my characters too. Unfortunately, they choose to express their views in a less than complimentary review, something I’ll never do. Still, if we can avoid writing the type of protagonist a reader hates, we should. 

I’m curious to know other readers thoughts about this  as well. What kind of characters just tick you off?
