About this ebook

Formerly title Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew

A sea-captain with a score to settle. A gently-bred matchmaking hellion. A love that won’t be denied.

Captain Oliver Whitehouse has two goals: make the final payment on his ship and exact revenge for his grandfather’s murder. He certainly shouldn’t interrupt years of planning to save a damsel in distress and see her safely to England. Nor should he foolishly entertain romantic notions about a future with the impulsive beauty that her guardian has warned him away from. Even if she is the loveliest creature he’s ever laid eyes on, and only she makes him forget his past.

Ward to a powerful earl, Blaike Culpepper once craved adventure and excitement. Until her impetuousness nearly caused her ruin. Now shadowed by scandal, and pursued by a madman, she finds herself obligated to the darkly handsome sea captain for rescuing her. A man she’s been attracted to since they first met at a ball and she’s grown to love. Though Blaike saves the swashbuckling scoundrel’s life and they enjoy a tantalizing kiss, the infuriating man won’t woo her.

Once Oliver returns Blaike safely to England, he must make an agonizing decision. Dare he risk everything to pursue her, despite the vast difference in their social stations? Or should he sail away, leaving his heart behind?

I absolutely loved Blaike's story! Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew is the fourth book in the Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series and they are all worth reading. Blaike and her twin sister Blaire find themselves in a situation where they have to get home with very little money and without a proper chaperone when their living situation at Les Dames de l'Academie de Grace, an institute for higher education puts them both in harms way. While trying to secure passage home they are accosted by some local men and when they believe they have no way out of this horrible situation a friend of the family finds them and offers safe passage home. Oliver Whitehouse is surprised to see the Culpepper sisters in town with no passage home and without a proper chaperone so he takes it upon himself to get them home safely, but the trip home becomes more than they all bargin for with the possiblitiy of pirates, storms, illness and a parrot named M'Lady Lottie that has a vocabulary that makes grown men blush. Being in such close quarters for the trip Blaike and Oliver find keeping their feelings for one another hidden is becomming difficult and are finding themselves drawing closer and closer every day. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

The fourth installment of the Culpepper Series, this was a fast paced adventure that grabbed my heart from the first page. Blaike and her twin Blaire had escaped from a terrible situation in Geneva making it to France to board a ship to take them home to England. Little did they know that they would be accosted on the docks by a scoundrel and were barely saved by Captain Oliver Whitehouse. Luckily the girls knew Oliver, who had secretly loved Blaike for awhile. But getting the girls on ship left him wounded in the scuffle and Blaike devoted herself to his care. The trip back definitely was explosive with the chemistry between the two and with a fowl mouthed bird to keep everybody entertained! Collette Cameron has a gift of bringing the settings and characters to life while keeping the story fresh and entertaining. This book had a little of it all - suspense, humor and of course a heart pounding romance that made me love Oliver and Blaike. With a visit from the other Culpepper sister's from books 1-3, it reminded me how much I have loved this entire series. I cannot wait for Blaire's story and I know it will be just as wonderful as this one!! Well done as always Collette Cameron!!

Twin sisters Blaike and Blaire Culpepper are in Lyon, awaiting the ship that will take them back to England after their hasty departure from Geneva, where Blaike ran into some problems at the finishing school they were attending. A ship captain invites them aboard, making them believe he’s the one who’s supposed to meet them, the dastardly Landon Abraham. Sensing he’s not who he’s supposed to be, Blaike and Blaire refuse, and Oliver Whitehouse arrives just in time. Oliver detests Abraham for personal reasons, and he will not let him hurt innocent young ladies: Oliver knows that Abraham deals in slavery. A scuffle ensues, Oliver is hurt, and off they go on to England. Blaike is secretly in love with Oliver, who would ask Blaike’s hand if he were of noble birth, and the voyage home will be very painful. In the latest instalment, BLAIKE: Secrets Gone Askew, book 4 of the Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper, Collette Cameron focuses on, as the title implies, BLAIKE, the beautiful, brave, and cheeky wench. While Blaire is seasick, Blaike tends to Oliver’s injury, and they get even closer as they get to know each other. Oliver has a very interesting backstory, and I loved the intimate conversations he and Blaike had; their interactions felt very natural. Oliver is a lovely man: he’s chivalrous, and maybe a touch too honourable for his own good, or rather his own heart. I kept thinking of Antonio Banderas in Zorro; what visuals! Ms. Cameron’s research paid off as we are treated to a Regency sea voyage, which was quite perilous. And how could one forget to mention the potty-beaked cockatoo, M’Lady Lottie! Once again, Collette Cameron takes us on a trip through time, her colourful descriptions filling the pages, action and adventures, along with her engaging and charming characters, that never fail to enchant and surprise us!
