I’m one of those people who loves the Christmas season. We always decorate our house, inside and out, and I bake up a storm.
Even though all my children are young adults, I still stuff their stockings and try to surprise them with a gift they don’t expect.
I even buy the dogs presents!
Yet, this time of year is also a bit difficult. I lost my beloved grandmother in a house fire on December 15, 2006, and my cousin and very best friend, whose birthday was December 31st, died from brain cancer in January 2002. My father-in-law’s birthday was December 15th too, and we lost him to a heart attack at 61. Still, it’s the memories of them that I cherish, as well as the memories, both old and new, of my children as we celebrate Christmas together that I hold in my heart.
Not a day goes by that I’m not awed by the amazing people my children have become. So this year as my hubby and I gather our dogs and kids in the living room for the traditional opening of the presents, we’ll celebrate family and faith, as well as the hope and belief that our futures will continue to be blessed.
