Today I’m thrilled to have Keira Montclair, author of Healing a Highlander’s Heart with me in the Blue Rose Writing Room.
Thank you so much for inviting me, Collette! By the way, your book covers are luscious!!
Thank you!
So, do you use a pen name/pseudo name? If so, why. If not, why did you decide to write under your own name?
I do use a pen name because I am a high school teacher. Besides, doesn’t everyone want the opportunity to pick their own name?
Can you tell us how long you have been writing?
I wrote Rescued by a Highlander five years ago, but could not get published. I then wrote The Duke and the Dressmaker a year later. Between the two of them, I had many, many rejection letters. So when I decided to self-publish, I was shocked at the sales and readers’ responses. Now I am thankful for the rejections as they humbled me. They helped me to appreciate every one of my readers!!
What is one place you absolutely want to visit before you die?
I hope to visit Scotland, especially the Highlands. They say it is unparalleled beauty.
I’m going next summer!
Why did you choose to write in this genre? Have you ever written any other genre? Do you plan on doing so in the future?
I write in historical romance because I love historical romance. I have written both Scottish and Regency. I plan to stay with these two over the next two years, but I would love to write a contemporary romance someday. Who knows?
That’s what I write, Regency-Scottish. I love the blend.
Is there any genre you won’t read? Write? Can you tell us why?
I will read any genre, but I am a voracious reader of historical romance- any time period. I probably would never write erotica, probably because I find sex scenes the most difficult to write.
What are you most proud of about your writing?
I often write about abused women. It’s not about the abuse, but about their personal journey. This is part of my platform as a writer. I hope reading how others heal (even if fictional) can help empower victims in their own journey.
How do you respond to negative reviews?
I usually don’t. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I don’t expect to please everyone.
Tell us something unusual, quirky, or odd about yourself. I have taken ballet lessons for a LONG time.
Okay, now for the quickie questions:
Favorite Disney Character? Winnie, the Pooh
Favorite Fruit? Berries, any kind
Favorite Hero? Oh, I have so many, this is a tough question. Maybe Nathanial Bonner in Sara Donati’s Into the Wilderness. Didn’t make the 3 words, did I?
Favorite Eye Color? Blue
Best Vacation Destination?Charleston, SC
Food you can’t stand? Yuk, clams L
What annoys you? Rudeness
Coffee, tea, or something else? coffee
Nightgown or Jammies? Jammies
Prefer dogs or cats? Dogs
A bit about Keira
Keira lives in Florida with her husband. An Amazon best-selling author, she brings you the second novel in her Clan Grant Series, Brenna and Quade’s story. Also a Registered Nurse, Keira enjoys adding medical issues to her novels and loved writing the story of Brenna Grant as a healer.
Healing a Highlander’s Heart
Kidnapped at knifepoint in the middle of the night, healer Brenna Grant is spirited across the Highlands to heal a chieftain who’s near death. The last thing she expects is for her patient to be a handsome laird who steals her heart. Unable to deny him—or anyone who needs her talents as a healer—she travels to his clan to treat a mysterious invalid.
Quade Ramsay awakens to find a beautiful healer at his bedside. He is powerless to fight his attraction to the lass who saved his life, but he’s vowed never to fall in love again. Convinced a family curse hangs over his head, he fights his feelings for Brenna. But the very woman he is determined to stay away from might be the only one who can save his young daughter. Will he let the beautiful healer mend his own broken heart?
