A Little Scotland Love!
I didn’t want to come home.
I can’t believe I’ve been home from Scotland an entire week and am just now getting around to posting a blog on my amazing trip!
But then again, the first two days, I had jet lag so bad, my head was a fuzzy mess. The rest of the time I’ve been catching up on all that author business that didn’t get touched for two weeks. There’s definitely something to be said for limited Internet such as I experienced in the Highlands.
The trip was magical, the Scots gracious and a delight to listen to (I’d never tire of that brogue!) and the architecture and landscape truly breathtaking. So much so that I’ve already paid a deposit for a writing retreat to Scotland in September 2018. Who knows, maybe it will become an annual event. (Oh, that would be amazing!)
The trip wasn’t ‘uneventful, but minor inconveniences–say sprinting through the airport to catch a connecting flight–were nothing compared to the experience. I also learned not to ask for a wash cloth (face cloth or flannel) if they have them at all.
I was actually there to research for a new series, and I learned so much. I was a tad bit taken aback to learn I had some facts wrong in my current books despite hours and hours of research. Fortunately, I have a few readers in Scotland who have very generously agreed to answer any questions that I might have in the future.
One of the high points for me was listening to a gent sing and speak in Gaelic. Okay, I loved the bagpipes too. And the shortbread. And cocka-leekie soup. (No, I did not eat haggis or blood sausage.)
I won’t ramble on anymore. I’ll let you decide from my photos. A disclaimer here; I’m not a professional photographer so these are completely untouched.
Who knows what castle this is?
Have you been to Scotland? If so, what was your favorite place to visit? What place is on your bucket list that you absolutely want to see?
