I so appreciate all of you taking the time to share your snippets and to comment on other authors’ as well!
Five-Line Friday RULES
- Five lines of your current work in progress, new release, soon-to-be-released … whatever. (Do keep it as close to five sentences as you can.)
- You are welcome to post buy links too.
- PG (I don’t have a warning on my blog about content, so it has to be appropriate for all viewers. I will delete comments that aren’t appropriate or offensive to some audiences. Sorry.)
I thought it would be fun to post a few lines from Her Scandalous Wish which is part of the Once Upon a True Love’s Kiss Limited Boxed Set presented by nine bestselling historical romance authors and releasing January 4, 2016.
“Good God, are you insane?” She scrambled free of his embrace then gave his chest a forceful shove. “You scared ten years off my life. You might damn-well warn someone before you prowl up behind them unawares.”
Though he couldn’t see her features clearly, he didn’t doubt the sharp-tongued angel-goddess glowered at him as she bent to retrieve her fan.
Remember, you’re always welcome to post snippets from more than one book!
I love your snippet, Collette. Thank you for the opportunity. I have a release in November, but I think I’ll post an excerpt from Three Weeks to Wed, book #1 of my next series, which just went on pre-order.
The kernel of an idea began to form. Swallowing her trepidation, Grace stepped boldly into the hall. “Mr. Brown, his lordship is welcome to dine with me.”
“If you’re sure, my…”
She flashed him a quelling glance. If he said “my lady,” there’d be too many questions from Worthington. Whatever happened, he could not know her identity.

You are such a busy lady, Ella!
Very nice! And thank you for the opportunity to share – this is from my Victorian romance, Great & Unfortunate Desires. The first glance of our heroine at her hero.
He was stunning in his black pants, cutaway and sapphire waistcoat. Her hands clenched, and a small snap of her fan’s ivory handle sounded before she released her grip. He, along with his compatriots, walked toward her and her friends, his gait fluid and graceful, like a cat approaching its prey. Heartbeat racing, she closed her eyes. Composure was needed. Breathe!

What a teaser, Gina!
Two snippets? Cool! You’re so sweet, Collette. 🙂
This is from TO KISS A RAKE, my recent release.
The coach came to a halt. Melinda’s eyes fluttered open as she woke. The obnoxious lord who’d sworn he wouldn’t touch her broke the kiss, still holding her in his arms. She shoved at him, but he held fast.
“How dare you?” she cried.
The interior of the coach was still cloaked in gloom, but dawn was well on the way. She caught a glimpse of amused eyes before he pulled the brim of his hat over his face. “You fell asleep and slid right into my arms,” he said, his calm voice feeding her rage. “I couldn’t resist.”

And this is from the sequel, which is almost done:
Bridget glared at the newspapers. “If you read my advertisements but didn’t intend to reply, why did you keep them?”
Colin took a glass from a cabinet, dusted it with his shirtsleeve, and poured her some wine. And grinned. Those dimples—Mother Mary and all the saints, they made her ache. “My man collects them,” he said.
“You mean—many women advertise?”
He smirked. “Oh, yes.”
No buy link for that one yet…
I can’t wait to read the sequel, Barbara!
How did I miss the two snippet thing?
Add another, Ella!!
Thanks for allowing us to post our sentences, Collette. My five sentences are from my historical romance, Lost Honor.
He snatched the remaining cutlass, the only other weapon they were able to steal from the
pirate ship. “Wait here.”
“I’m coming with you.”
He muttered something she was sure was another curse. “Come on, but stay behind me.”
They sped from the cave and raced across the clearing toward the forest, but before they reached it, pirates poured from between the trees.
Lost Honor is available in e-book and print. You can find buy links on my website http://www.loreenaugeri.com

I do love a pirate story!
This are so wonderful. Thanks for doing this, Collette. Here’s another from Dangerous Weakness (on pre-order now). Kiss is such a lovely theme.
“Your father is in the middle of delicate trade negotiations,” he began. but he thought, “If Volkov is involved, Thornton needs to come home,” but another thought struck him.
“You asked him to come and he refused.”
She didn’t respond; she watched him steadily. Richard stared back, eyes fixated on her mouth.
Dear God, her lip is quivering. Richard’s entire consciousness narrowed to a need to soothe her quivering mouth. He leaned closer until his own touched hers. She startled.
“You don’t need to fear me,” he murmured against her lips. He felt her mouth soften. He explored her mouth with care, absorbed in the sensation.
The woman responded tentatively, moving under his lips, and he forgot his purpose entirely.
Oh, so tickled you have another new release, Caroline.
This is from An Earl’s Queen, Book 2 in the Rogues and Rakehells Mystery series
“Yes, that’s Lady Chelsea. She’s the daughter of the Earl and Countess of Braxton. She made her bows to the ton last year and as with you now, became discouraged with the selection of gentlemen. To be honest, I’m a bit surprised she’s here,” his mother proclaimed.
“Why is that? A lady as beautiful as she is, I’m surprised gentlemen aren’t throwing themselves at her feet.”
“It’s very simple, Son. I’ve known her mother for ages as we made our bows the same year. Lady Chelsea is fully aware of those seeking her hand, and even though there have been offers she’s refused them. And before you even think of asking for an introduction, don’t.”

I want to know why he can’t ask for an introduction.
Thank you, Collette, for the opportunity to give your readers five lines of my latest medieval romance, A Knight to Call My Own.
Her breath left her with a rush of excitement that practically blinded her to anything other than Ian’s warm skin. Scorching hot awareness to his every move raced up her arm at his touch, and she felt as though her very blood was on fire. She felt herself losing a battle she had no idea she was even in. She needed to get away from him quickly, and yet, with this fleeting thought, he brought her closer. He lifted her chin so she had no alternative other than to stare upon his face.

I think she’s in deep trouble!!
Great snippet, Collette! Thank you for doing this again. As my debut novel A Sense of the Ridiculous was re-released yesterday, here is a taster from that.
Jocasta had fallen asleep in the parlour, but wakes to find herself snuggling into Richard’s arms as he carries her upstairs. She takes him to task to cover her confusion. My apologies, it is slightly long.
Without thinking, Jocasta slapped him, the sharp sound resounding in the quiet stairway.
“How dare you suggest I am ungrateful? Waking thus… the shock… I—”
She broke off as a slow smile curved his firm lips and her heart beat a wild tattoo; she felt very much how she suspected a trapped deer must feel. Richard stepped closer, his nearness overpowering. He smelt of ale, leather and smoke; it was hard to breathe. She trembled as he traced his knuckles over her cheek, which flamed in response… at that moment, the brass-faced, long-case clock in the hall below struck the quarter hour, bringing her to her senses. With a gasp, she whirled about and fled to the safety of her chamber.

How fun, Heather.
Ooh, I’m late to the party! Such fun excerpts–more books to add to my TBR pile! Here’s an excerpt from my upcoming novella, a prequel to Bella’s Band. It officially has an equally alliterative name: “Liliana’s Letter”.
“You oppose the union, even though Miss Mercer’s father desires it.”
Pressing her lips tight, she nodded curtly.
“Even though you may be homeless afterward,” he thought. Still holding her hand, he moved a step closer. That dark hulking mass of greenery behind her would prevent a retreat.
Energy danced around the both of them, pulling them closer like a magnet. He sensed her interest, could smell it almost, threading in with the roses and lemons, plucking the strings of his own desire. Nothing like this had happened with Cora, not ever.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Lovely, Alina!
I love these snippets. It is so much fun to wonder what comes next.
Here is another snippet from my Christmas Novella A PERFECTLY UNREGIMENTED CHRISTMAS from the CHRISTMAS REVELS II anthology which will be up for pre order in October.
“And what of Christmas, my lord? Are they to have no part of the holiday?”
“I have not celebrated Christmas in twenty years, Mrs. Winters. Soldiers seldom have much chance on the battlefield.”
“This is not a battlefield, my lord. This is your home. And theirs while they remain.”
He crossed the room to where she sat. One hand on the table and the other on the back of her chair he leaned over her. The scent of soap, leather, and cloves made her want to move closer, but she did not dare.
“I have been pelted with snow-covered potatoes, knocked down the stairs, attacked by some unidentified one-eyed creature—”
“Atilla. He’s a cat.”
“By what right does that thing call himself a cat? I have had my breakfast poisoned, my patience tried and my sanity called into question. What would you call it, if not a battlefield? There will be no Christmas in this house.” He blinked. Slowly removed his hands. And took a step back. With a brief nod he turned to go.
“We’ll just see about that,” Belle muttered.
“Do not go to war with me, madam. I have years of experience and tricks you cannot begin to imagine.” He threw open the parlor door and stalked down the corridor, his boots delivering a ringing celebration of his temper.
“So do I, Colonel Miserington. So. Do. I.”
Love it, Louisa!!
First of all, thank you, Collette! What a wonderful idea. And, I might add, your website is beautiful. Well, here goes.

Yes, there were moments when his love for her felt possessive, obsessive and overwhelming, but she had learned to ignore those outbursts. It seemed a small price to pay compared to all that he had given her. The important thing was to reassure him and show him by her actions how much she loved him.
His imperfections only made her love him more. She pressed herself closer into his embrace and heard the grateful moan of contentment that escaped his lips. Beyond the secrets, the one thing she was certain of was his love.
