It’s going to be on sale July 23-27 for $0.99!
In this scene, Ewan has discovered Yvette in his chamber at Banbury Inn.
~ ~
Ewan knew the moment Yvette came fully awake.
Stiffening in his arms, she gave a small cry of shocked dismay and pressed at his chest with both hands.
He released her, and she scrambled across the bed.
Stopping in the middle, she faced him. Her hair swirled around her, settling in shimmering waves about her hips.
~ ~
We had a very busy week, last week, with lots of page views as well as wonderful snippets.
I can’t wait to see what you have this week.
Thanks, Collette. I’m sure Yvette has a reason for being in Ewan’s bed. And that whatever it is, is fine by him!
Here’s another snippet from my medieval fantasy romance WIP “The Weeping Dragon”.
“After the banquet last night, those two had a quarrel. They went to the empty guardroom on the far side of the bailey, but they were so noisy half the castle must’ve heard them.”
Dorrit blinked; “I . . . I can’t believe it!”
Sir Reginald sighed; “My dear, whether or not you believe it, that’s what happened. Joan was angry at William for not asking me for her hand yet, and he was angry at her for telling several people he was about to.”
As always, feedback is welcome. I’m looking forward to reading others’ excerpts. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Well, he finds out later!
Great lines Mary Anne and Collette! As a woman who has never been able to grow hair, I envy Yvette’s long tresses 🙂
Here’s mine from my new release, Twilight’s Encore:
“Ty…” she pleaded, her hands raised to push him away, or pull him closer, he wasn’t sure. And the moment she made contact it didn’t matter anymore. He gave in. Gave up.
“It’s too late,” he murmured as his arms drew her in.

Fabulous teaser!
Thanks for this great idea, Collette! In this scene from Phantom Traces, Jack and Abby are interrupted in a very private moment by Jack’s sister Elena—with her four year old daughter . . .
Lexi turned her face up to gaze reverently at her uncle as she wrapped herself around his leg.
“Ouch, Uncle Jack. What’s that hard thing in your pocket?”
Uh-oh. Abby held her breath as she glanced from the child’s face to Elena’s, whose eyes had gone wide.
Jack shifted away from his niece, patting down the side of his trousers but avoiding any more central region. Then he broke out in wide grin. He reached into his pocket and fished out the skeleton key.

Oops, leave it to a child!
Nice bit of reader manipulation. Thanks, Gem Writer.
Thank you!
From Falling Hard in Crashing Into Love boxed set:
What the hell?
He was supposed to be the only client.
A week in the Canadian Rockies hunting moose. No one but him and a guide.
Yet, two deckhands loaded box after box onto the Twin Otter, packing enough crap for ten planes.

Oh, now I’m curious!!
Oh this I like. I’m hooked.
Loved yours, Collette!! Thanks for the opportunity! Here is mine from Lady Beresford’s Lover, which releases on Tuesday!!
Vivian should not have had such great expectations of her marriage, but while their fathers arranged the union, Edgar had been attentive and charming. Father had assured her this was a good match and a dutiful daughter would trust her papa, like the good puss she was. After all, he had said in a kind tone, Vivian was no great beauty, too blond when the fashion was for dark hair, slender to the point of skinny when men preferred voluptuous ladies, and too bookish.
Although, if someone, anyone, would have told her about her future husband’s lover, Vivian was sure she could have brought herself to refuse the match, for among her many failures was too much pride.

Poor Vivian!
Poor Vivian, indeed. I love arranged marriage stories.
I sure hope Edgar isn’t the hero! Vivian deserves better. Thanks, Ella.
Here’s a snippet from my new SMP contract, “Cinderella Busted.” In this tidbit, Cinderella/Lily Foster has just bolted from the Jupiter Island cocktail party when Prince Charming/billionaire Rhett Buchanan caught her, slippers and all:
She could no longer see the expression in his eyes, but oddly enough she could feel his expression — the anger and the hurt. “I just thought it odd where you found me and wondered–”
“How I found you? I saw you slip out to the patio, and after you met Delia, I figured you intended to run, so I went out the front. If I figured wrong, I could always find you in the garden later. Evidently, I guessed right.”
Thanks, Collette, for letting the newbie post!
What a neat twist on a classic!
Reconstructing Charlie by Charmaine Gordon
Prologue: In 1996 I killed my father.
Dear old Dad was great with a belt. A belt of whiskey. A belt from around his waist unbuckled when you least expected it and later I knew when it was coming and some of us escaped. Not me, not Mom. Never Mom. I’m the oldest. I didn’t want the little ones to see the okay dad turn into a monster on payday.

What a powerful few lines!!
This really snagged my attention! Thanks, Charmaine.
I Collette! Thanks for the opportunity of sharing my 5 lines!
Here’s an excerpt from my new book Beauty’s Curse – the 2nd book in my Love on the High Seas series.
He’d do what was best for her. He’d take her to safety and send her back home to a bright future…with a
more honorable man than him. The stick broke in his hand, and he muttered an oath.
All he wanted was for Amelia to be safe and happy, dammit. That and to beat every honorable man in England into the dust.

Good one Tamara.
So glad to have you here today, Tamara! That last line made me grin!
Intriguing snippet. He must be quite an interesting character. Thanks, Tamar.
Oops, I mean Tamara.
Thank you so much for this opportunity, Collette! This snippet comes from my current release, An Improper Marriage.
A tiny voice whispered to him that watching a lady in her sleep was hardly the behaviour of a gentleman, yet he could not make himself move from beside her. She sighed softly and turned on to her back. He froze, but she settled again, totally unaware that her movements had triggered a very different response in him. The subtle fragrance of rose water, with which she had dressed her hair, mingled with the lavender and an essence of the woman herself, was an intoxicating combination and he knew he should withdraw. Devil take it, he wanted nothing more than to climb on to the bed with her!

Loved the snippet, Heather.
Hi Collette! Thanks for letting me share a snippet from my debut novel, Maggie’s Way.
Time burrowed its way into the tiny cracks of my existence, wedging into the nooks and crannies like sand between my toes on a hot summer day at the beach. Taunted by the past, I knew I would have married Beckett Littleton anyway. Being middle-aged brought unexpected changes, but in my book, middle-aged didn’t mean middle of the road even if I did feel like a confused squirrel darting across four lanes of oncoming traffic.
A lock of strawberry-blond hair grazed my cheek as I sighed with exasperation. I twirled and slid my wedding band over my bony knuckle to finger the metal as if it could turn back time, back to the day when I gazed into Beckett’s eyes, when we vowed to stay by each other’s side, for better, for worse, for richer or poorer.
I snickered at the thought of irreconcilable differences.

Absolutely wonderful!
Wonderful passage! Vivid, sensitive description. And I can easily relate to these thoughts. Thanks, Linda.
Hmmm. You challenge me, Collette.I need to find a scene where someone is discovered where they ought not be. In this case the heroine has fallen asleep in the hero’s bed. He was sick after all, wasn’t he? He’ll never know. Just a nap, she thought. When she woke with an arm firmly around her she tried to crawl out and fell on the floor.
She briefly considered crawling out the door, but she was too late.
Black eyes looked down at her over the edge of the bed.
She rose up on one elbow with a sigh of resignation and pushed herself up until she rested her chin on the side of the bed. No words came to her.
Andrew propped himself on both his elbows.
“What are you doing on my floor?” he asked reasonably.

Andrew is a reasonable chap!
Yeah, good question! Thanks, Caroline.

“Mistake?” she snapped.
“I was kidnapped! I have been a prisoner in your home. Forced to come here and forced to remain. I’ve been scared out of my mind.
Every day I worried if you still lived. I agonized over what would become of me if you died.
Then I walk in here and you have the audacious daring to tell me it was a mistake?”

The Only One coming in September
A steal at $0.99!
Sounds like Yvette awoke to a surprise! Love it! Great excerpts everyone. Here is another from A PERFECTLY UNREGIMENTED CHRISTMAS soon to be out in Christmas Revels II – Four Regency Novellas.
“It is my belief houses are not haunted, my lord. People are. If you insist on surrounding yourself with ghosts, you will chase the living away.” He reached for the nearly empty glass on the bedside table.
Ben beat him to it and cradled the glass in his hand as he walked back to the fireplace. “Perhaps that is my intention.”
“The road to hell, Lord Miserington.” He cleared away the last of Ben’s shaving accoutrements and retrieved the silver salver from the blanket chest.
“I’ve been to hell, Marley.” Ben knocked back the last of the brandy and set the glass on the tray the butler offered. “They called it my childhood. Didn’t like it much.”
“One wonders then, why you insist on revisiting it.”
Twenty years. He’d not seen his grandmother’s butler in twenty years, and the man still sussed him out as if he were a small boy stealing mince pies and lying about it. Dammit. He searched his brandy-fogged mind for the hard-hearted colonel he’d worked so hard to become.
“Doesn’t signify, Marley. There will be no celebration of Christmas in this house. Not this year or any other year.”
“Very well, my lord.” A servant as well-trained as Marley might keep the desire to question the master of the house from his face, from his body, from his voice and his demeanor. Only a saint kept it hidden from his eyes. Marley was no saint. And Ben wanted someone, just one person, to understand.
“You were there, Marley. You know why.”
Love that word sussed!
