Historical Tidbits and Trivia
This is a new feature on my blog. Twice monthly on Tuesdays, I’m inviting fellow historical authors, writers, or history lovers to post an interesting tidbit, fact, expressions or words, or trivia.
We do so much research, I thought it would be fun to share what we find. I might post shoes one day or a recipe. Maybe an expression or Regency word that tickled my fancy. Perhaps I’ll dazzle you with my knowledge of etiquette or carriage, bathing habits or pets that were favored.
Feel free to post images but do make sure there isn’t any copyright infringement.
Truly, there are no guidelines or restrictions other than keep it PG 13, please.
Oh, and do feel free to leave buy links to your books if you like and links to your website/blog.
Enjoy yourselves!
Here’s my tidbit for the day.
During the Regency era, when going upstairs, men always went first. However, when descending stairs, ladies went first.
Considering how light-weight many Regency gowns were, I think the gentlemen just wanted to look at the lady’s bottoms.
And speaking of bottoms, bum was commonly used to refer to one’s backside and bung upwards mean you were lying on your face. Both can be found in the 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue.
And here’s my book and link:
